About this listen

Having gone from a simple video game addict to the leader of a band of refugees, Darwin continues to cut his way across the world of Tiqpa searching for a home. Be it his home in real life, or one for his people in the game, the sleepless warrior presses forward. Unfortunately for him, each step he makes changes the fate of Tiqpa, a fact that is not welcomed by those who inhabit the lands.

We kind of cheated with this book. We actually had a long drive to visit my mother over the weekend, and my kids insisted that we listen to the next book in the series. They have been asking me repeatedly when book two was coming out, and yelling at me to get it the moment it was produced. So, one loooong car ride later, and here we are at a review.

As good as the first book was I really think this book turned out better. There is not a lot of flipping between characters as there was in the first novel, and I have to say the winged people were not my favorite parts. Now that they have all joined up we really only have four POV's; Darwin, Kass, Robert, and the King. This pared down line up helps the flow of the book immensely, it streamlines it to a much needed degree. Additionally, when there is POV change it makes sense and keeps in line with the plot.

Another bonus is that this picks up right where book one finished, well not exactly as the ending of book one was a jump to the past, but you start right where everybody left off. Darwin continues to be a favorite character of mine, and I loved listening to him spar with spoons. Who else but Doctor Who does that? Maybe the Blue Rajah from Mystery Men, but that's about it.

The plot, the pacing, and the action all amp up, and we get some really good character growth. My kids just loved it, and have been saying they want to listen to it on the next ride back for Easter. I might just let them, even though I generally only listen to a book once in the car. It keeps me awake having fresh material, but this could work again.

Broadhead blasts down your expectations with his readings. He does some great voices, and imparts a ton of emotion to the characters. You really do feel both the king's pain and his anticipation for battle. You empathize with Kass, and Darwin just impresses you with the fortitude in his voice.

If you liked book one, you will absolutely LOVE book two. Now we can't wait for book 3! Keep 'em coming, Charles and we'll keep on reading them!!

Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

this book is turning into a entertaining series highly enjoyable. the narrator does a good job on the Male character except for one guy sounds like he is hard of hearing and shouts alot. but in the other hand almost all of the female characters sound like over existed valley girls with the need to whine and scream alot. it gets quite annoying after a while. Even the Scottish girl has a California valley girl thing going on. Like the only like more annoying thing would be like if they said like alot.

story is good and the narrator is ok but...

Great story, good humor, mostly agreeable with how the mc handles things, minus the bits of whining, so he like to fight what's wrong with that. not a fan of the way the narrator speaks at all, almost ruins it.

Great story, don't like the narrator
