The year is 2023.
The world's power grids have been destroyed by a Carrington-level solar storm. Humanity is plunged into a new and savage dark age, pushed to the brink of extinction by famine, disease, and social unrest, and preyed upon further by demonic forces.
Desperate survivors turn to a divided Catholic church in search of hope. On one side there is the church of Rome. On the other, a rival papacy set up in Avignon, France. Wishing to heal the schism, but fearing that a powerful evil has infiltrated the highest ranks of the Avignon leadership, Rome sends a lone representative to assess the situation in France.
And also to cut down any heretics he finds along the way.
Exorcist Ossian McGregor, armed with the holy sword Grand Inquisitor, sets out to Avignon on a crusade with the intention to follow the stream of demonic activity to its fountainhead.
But the evil he finds far exceeds even his wildest imaginings.
The year is 2023. Welcome to Hell on Earth.

'Conqueror Worm' follows a dark priest who's job it is to exercise any and all demons he may come into contact with. He seems to be the sole person who can save this new world from the dark forces that have taken over the church. If you like a good horror/action/thriller/fantasy then this is the book for you! Jake Urry gives a most captivating performance in this one, as he always does! I loved this book (though I think the title is more than a bit odd). 10/10

This is the first time I've heard Jake Urry narrate a book and WOW. Hope he doesn't take this as an insult because it's totally not one, but he has a voice for horror. There is just something about his voice that reminded me of Vincent Price and it felt perfect for this story. Definitely someone I will listen to again in the future.

When I had received this book, it had several glowing reviews and one negative review. I figured I would give this a try. Sad to say that I have to agree with that negative review.
The book had a very good premise, a totally different post-apocalyptic setup, something that we haven't seen in a long time. I was hoping that this will be a good start to good series. But the way the author handled it, it leaves me very disappointed. There is no character build up at all. The story jumps from one monster fight to another within regular intervals; as if those are written as movie scenes. If you convert this book into a movie, you'll get several scenes with gritty battle sequences, that might be good entertainment on a lazy Saturday. But these didn't quite work in book format. I wish the author had spent time in developing the characters more and given them some solid backgrounds and emotional touches to make the reader connect with them. Without that, it feels very disconnected.
The narration is sub-par too. Almost all characters are voiced in the same way. And no infliction / emotion during different scenes. It's just like reciting the book, line by line.
Thankfully I had received this book for free, hence didn't have to spend a credit on it.
Written for a low budget movie?
