About this listen

From the best-selling author of My Husband's Wife, one man's disappearance throws four women's lives into chaos - who will survive?

Vicki works as an aromatherapist, healing her clients out of her home studio with her special blends of essential oils. She's just finishing a session when the police arrive on her doorstep - her ex-husband, David, has gone missing. Vicki insists she last saw him years ago when they divorced, but the police clearly don't believe her. And her memory's hardly reliable - what if she did have something to do with it?

Meanwhile, Scarlet and her mother, Zelda, are down on their luck, and at eight years old, Scarlet's not old enough to know the "game" her mother forces her to play is really just a twisted name for dealing drugs. Soon, Zelda is caught, and Scarlet is forced into years of foster care - an experience that will shape the rest of her life....

David's new wife, Tanya, is the one who reported him missing, but what really happened on the night of David's disappearance? And how can Vicki prove her innocence when she's not even sure of it herself? The answer lies in the connection among these four women - and the one person they can't escape.

“Corry’s skill at building suspense and creating characters with secrets pasts, as shown in her earlier novels, is on display again here.” (Booklist)

“Corry expertly weaves [the] stories together in unexpected and clever ways.” (CrimeReads)

“Corry delivers strong plot twists, a fast pace, and devious characters, making this a perfect blend of Liv Constantine’s The Last Mrs. Parrish and Alafair Burke’s The Wife that will keep readers guessing until the end.” (Library Journal)

Loved it!

Second book by this author I’ve read. Love the way she unfolds the characters and makes sad parts bearable. Will continue to read her work.

Rich storyline with unforeseen twists

Character development was seemingly predictable…until it wasn’t! The true antagonist, as revealed at the end, will surely surprise you.

compartmentalized

This book was a little hard to follow..at one point I did ask myself if I had finished it and started another because the one character did not appear for a while...then I realized hiw the book was going and was able to fit the pieces together

5 stars

The Dead Ex by Jane Corry is an emotionally gripping story. The way the women's lives are woven together is heartbreakingly beautiful. I love how everything is revealed and found myself surprised by some of the twists, which is always great.

Jayne Entwistle took some time to get used to as she has very little range.

The reader

When a team decides that they only want one reader then the reader should have different voices when the book is written with different people telling a story. It was very hard to follow at times because of who was telling the story.

so so

The narrator was very whiny. The author was trying too hard to create twists and surprises.

Liars, cheaters and secrets, oh my!

Narration by Jayne Enswistle is brought to life with each and every character’s precise inflection and dialect. We are introduced to a perplexing and curious ensemble cast. Corry pens a suspenseful and one-of-a-kind novel, intersecting two audictive subplots, a preferred style of mine. The ensemble cast is expertly crafted, making it impossible to predict how the two plots would intersect and I was looking forward to it, a shocker for sure! I’m on the lookout for more by these two accomplished women. I highly recommend this complexellent audiobook to those who enjoy a gripping and well-crafted thriller. It’s a true gem, and I look forward to exploring more works by these talented women. Epic, I say! EPIC! EPIC! EPIC!
