About this listen

Sparks fly when a runaway heiress bargains with a devilish rogue to escape a marriage of convenience.

No one would guess that beneath Violet Crenshaw's ladylike demeanor lies the heart of a rebel. American heiresses looking to secure English lords must be on their best behavior, but Violet has other plans. She intends to flee London and the marriage her parents have arranged to become a published author - if only the wickedly handsome earl who inspired her most outrageously sinful character didn't insist on coming with her.

Christian Halston, earl of Leigh, has a scheme of his own: escort the surprisingly spirited dollar princess north and use every delicious moment in close quarters to convince Violet to marry him. Christian needs an heiress to rebuild his Scottish estate, but the more time he spends with Violet, the more he realizes what he really needs is her - by his side, near his heart, in his bed.

Though Christian's burning glances offer unholy temptation, Violet has no intention of surrendering herself or her newfound freedom in a permanent deal with the devil. It's going to take more than pretty words to prove this fortune hunter's love is true....

Contains mature themes.

Justine Eyre such a wonderful narrator

She's the typical heroine: beautiful and smart. But so childish as to be cruel. that separation was just cruel especially since the hero keeps trying to explain and she won't even try to see another point of view. Narrow minded and chilish - that's not a good heroine to me.

What kind of heroine is that?

Interesting characters and convoluted plot. The book about her sister was the same way. Taking place during 1875, both England and the U.S. are going through growing pains regarding women’s rights both voting and individual/property rights. Women are no longer the property of their fathers and husbands. They are now individual in their own rights. Women are coming out of poverty due to the mismanagement of their property by people who are supposed to love them and care for them. It was an interesting time for women equal only to the time of the ERA in our own time in the 70’s. Women were no longer chattel.

Again, cute! And a good history lesson.

I really enjoyed Bk.2 "The Devil and the Heiress"

Christian Halston Earl of Leigh needs an heiress to rebuild his Scottish estate which has been destroyed in a fire. He asks the Millionaire Mr. Crenshaw for his youngest daughter's hand in marriage. But was denied her hand. So he decides to marry her anyway even if he has to compromise her.

We meet both Christian and Violet in bk.1 of the series. He is best friend to the Duke of Rothschild and she is the younger sister of August who has now married Evan the Duke of Rothschild. Christian has always been interested and intrigued with Violet.

Violet finds out her parents aren't satisfied with having one title in the family they want Violet to marry a despicable viscount. She runs away. Christian is there to run away with her intent on getting her to marry him before they are discovered.

I really like the way Violet and Christian are written. They make a loving perfect couple. I like Violet much more than I did her sister August.

The narration was really good!

PERFECT COUPLE

Beautifully written with great and heart rendering characters. The author fleshes out the main characters while using the background characters (parents, etc) as great tools to show the story.

Better than the first!

A wonderful follow-up to the 1st book. A must read! Tender, full of sweet love & as real life, there are heartbreaking moments. HIGHLY

Simply touching! & beautiful!

This novel had a lot of potential. The heroin is incredibly annoying towards the end of the book. The hero is pathetic in what he does to "win her back." It all just seemed like unnecessary drama... total eye roll towards the end. Struggled to finish the book. Love Justin Eyre though!
