About this listen

A haunting tale of a missing girl that could only have come from the mind of Bram Stoker Award-winning author Bentley Little.

The festival was intended as a getaway from UCLA for Gary, his girlfriend, Joan, and their friends. But soon after they arrive, Joan vanishes. Calls to her parents’ home yield only dead air. Her school records are gone. And there’s no evidence that Joan, or even her roommate, ever existed. Most disturbing of all is what they do find.

Among Joan’s belongings is a prayer written on a small scroll. It’s a safeguard — and a warning — from something called The Outsiders. For Gary and his friends, it’s the only clue. Now, if they want to find out exactly what happened to Joan, they must follow it. But they may not like what they find....

didn't like narrator

narrator's inflection was so distracting. pitch was raised at the end of every sentence making everything blend together. Bentley Little's stories are always creepy and suspenseful but there wasn't one moment of that in this performance for me. Voice characterization was good - just wish the rest of it was as well.

This rocks!

this was a good book, good plot good storyline, great action. the narrator did a great job. on a side note the Jews were slaves for 430 years in Egypt not 2000, just saying.

Another banger by Bentley Little

I’m working my way through all of Little’s books. I only have a few left in Audible. There are still two or three that haven’t been read yet. But I’m fine just reading those. I really enjoyed this one.

Great story but the narration was distrust

I enjoyed this book, great story. However, the narrator’s lilting voice that made statements sound like questions was very distracting.

Awful narrator

I loved the book, but it was tough to get through. The narrator’s lilting voice was SO annoying that more than once, I almost gave up. If I was the author, I’d throw a fit.

Great

I love Little's work and this did not disappoint. A little bit more violent than his usual stuff but still great

Story Has Some Holes

The narrative performance was excellent. The story was intriguing, however, towards the end of the book some of the choices made by the characters seemed unrealistic. The lack of plausibility made it difficult to suspend belief in the final chapters.
