About this listen

Bob Jones is ordinary, from his appearance right down to his very name. No one seems to take notice of him, not his co-workers, his girlfriend, or even his own parents. But Bob learns he's not alone when he's taken in by a band of people that suffer similarly. Calling themselves "The Ignored", the deadly vengeance they intend to wreak is sure to make them more than just memorable....

Better 20 years ago

I read The Ignored twenty years ago and it has been an all time favorite. But something didn't work listening to it. The book hasn't aged well. My reading critically has taken leaps and bounds. The first half of the novel was five stars. Excellent! The latter half, especially the last quarter of the novel didn't work for me. The novel could have been substantially shorter. Not wanting to provide any spoolers, the last part of the novel seemed like some cobbled together short stories existing in the same mileau. There was a point where the suspension of belief was just impossible and there were some plot points that lacked careful logic.
The performance left a ton to be desired. The clarity and elocution was great, no complaints. The voice though, was awful. The main character is in his twenties, the narrator sounds like an elderly man. And the pathetic tone was off putting. I'd never have imagined this voice. Also, the references to sex sounded amiss due to the narrator's voice.
I'm not upset I gave it a listen, particularly with the first several chapters. Genius storytelling. But the story didn't age well and the narration was amiss.
Interesting story in this day and age and I'd like to see a sequel written.

Truth

If ever there were a concept that could describe so many of us here on planet Earth; it would be that people feel ignored. What Bentley does here is just phenomenal.

different

Definitely another interesting book by Bentley Little. It was different, but not bad. I was expecting another crazy super natural book, but it was more of an adventure than anything. Nothing was really out there until towards the end. I hope to continue to see more of Bentley Little on audible.

Interesting concept but surprisingly boring

Love Little’s other work such as The Store and thought the concept of The Ignored was promising but upon listening it fell flat. The parts with those terrorists was strangely inconsistent with the main character’s personality. The story never fully developed imo. Disappointed.

hang in there the first quarter is pretty depressi

I had to stop in the middle of listening to this. I was dealing with some pretty heavy depression and reading what the main character goes through in the first bit of this book is hard. it gets really inspiring towards the end and is well worth the listening

Very weird

This was a strange book but it was interesting, something like Stephen King would have written. Definitely an adult book Liked the narrator. Did a good job.

Awesome book

When The Ignored came out I instantly became a big believer in Bentley Little. Everyone I have managed to get to read this book becomes a Little reader. I devour all his books. This story enthralled me. Everyone can relate to Bob Jones at some point or other. Everyone has that moment when you think would anyone even miss me if I was gone? Do I matter? Does anything I do matter? But this story takes it a step further and let's Bob know that noone misses him or knows whether he's around or not. Bob discovers others that are like him. And an adventure ensues. Bob discovers being ignored is not the worst thing that can happen to you...

Icarus touched the Sun with this one….

I’ve been reading Mr. Little’s books for awhile now…
I read them or listen to them as I find them…
I have no clue what’s considered his early or latest work, but I can say with zero hesitation that this book is my absolute favorite….
I’d give anything to sit down with Mr. Little and ask him how, or where he got the idea for this story…
Was The Great God Pan it’s inspiration?
I’ll definitely be buying it now….
Was it’s inspiration something more personal?
God knows I’ve struggled with my own feelings of self worth or my “impact” on the world around me…
I honestly couldn’t stop listening to this book, and I’m literally sad that I’ve completed it lol

It’s originality somehow reminded me of the short story Mrs. Todd's Shortcut by Stephen King, and honestly I couldn’t pay it a higher compliment than that.

Interesting premise, but didn’t evolve as hoped

The plot of the book is very interesting and I had high hopes for it, but as the book goes along and evolves it sort of just gets flat, you then get a new pick of interest that ends up not developing enough leaving the end feeling unfulfilling for me.
The performance was good for me, I do listen at 1.3x speed.
