Great stories!!

Loved nearly all the characters, but one, and Scott knows who she is. His writing is masterful and he's 2nd cousin to a spider with the story web he weaves. Now one of my favorite authors.

Minor spoiler ahead

Snidely Whiplash!?! Fun sci-fi adventure though predictable. Glad I bought as an omnibus because individually I don’t know if I would have bought the whole series

sadly only slightly better than earlier books

I don't want to take time to say much about this book or it's author. Of course, this is actually three books. I tried a slightly different technique to get through it without being totally bored - I played it at three times speed. It worked okay, but ever since the nice vizsla and his family we're introduced I knew who the stepmother was, so that part of the plot build up was not exciting at all. Also, while marginally better, the author's idea of dramatic vulnerability and prolonged setup before getting to the fun of the story still remains. The bad guys are perceptibly immortal and insanely evil. The good guys are always at a disadvantage and sometimes so stupid I'm surprised they could operate a toaster. The one thing that keeps me from absolutely hating this story is the confidence that it will end well. however screwed up most of it might be, it has some real creative ideas in it and it is assured to end well. I can't say I outright dislike this story, only I can't say that I enjoyed it either. still a bit too depressing, still a bit too boring.

Drags on

I have too largely agree with the other reviews in that this series peaked around book 3. the characters are overall likable, but damn are the tropes in these books strong. with a morbid curiosity I am going to start the last three books. I can only expect that the same antagonist comes back to haunt them.

The main characters.

The main characters are always so clueless. They never make the leap in logic that is clearly and visibly there. It’s been the same for 7 books. At some point context clues have to come into play in their minds. It’s slightly frustrating. The story other than their inability to make logical leaps is enjoyable.

Grows Tired

This was difficult to listen to. I found myself wanting it to just end. Similar scenarios repeated themselves and character development stagnated as a flow of new characters entered the storyline with favorites getting edged out. This particular set of books introduced a significant shift in dialog - one which appears to be targeted at a much younger and less verbally skilled audience. The increase in profanity was insulting and not the least bit appropriate to many situations or pleasingly palpable. It seems to have been introduced to appeal to more juvenile tastes. Bottom line is I felt this set of books was beneath the higher bars set by the previous. Although I still care about the core characters, the writer has spoiled the story with the style and focus change. It's sad really. He is so gifted. Oh well, better luck next time Charlie.
