Publisher's summary

In 1999 Joseph Pine and James Gilmore offered readers the idea of the experience economy as a new way to connect with customers and secure their loyalty. As a result, their book The Experience Economy is now a classic, embraced by listeners and companies worldwide and available in more than a dozen languages.

Though the world has changed in many ways since then, the way to a customer’s heart has not. In fact, the idea of staging experiences to leave a memorable - and thus a lucrative - impression is now more relevant than ever. With a torrent of brands attacking consumers from all sides, how do you make yours stand out?

Welcome to the new experience economy. With this fully updated edition of the book, Pine and Gilmore make an even stronger case that experience is the missing link between a company and its potential customers. It offers rich new examples - including the US Army, Heineken Experience, Autostadt, American Girl Place, and others - to show fresh approaches to scripting and staging compelling experiences, while staying true to the very real economic conditions of the day.

Includes a bonus pdf with graphics.

Must read

Very lucrative ideas on how to deal with clients in this economy. For the past 30 years I have been and entrepreneur and this book still taught me new things and new ideas.

An indespensible tool.

I was profoundly impacted by this book in 1999 when the ideas were brand new. This updated version is outstanding. Many things that were discussed in general in the earlier version were handled in much greater detail and a in more accessible way for this version. As an entrepreneur I'm excited to go apply it all.

Important subject but outdated source material

The book subject is very interesting and important but some of the examples used are now pretty outdated (iPods!)
I would preferred more examples and case studies but overall a good learning guide.

Great content

I’d been wanting to read this book for sometime. Written in 2012 it’s already starting to date in its examples but the methodology still stands the test of time. Would have preferred the authors to have read it as the voice is a little automated. I’ve started to implement many of the concepts in my business already

Enlightening

Highly technical performing arts approach to the evolution of markets and businesses serving their needs & wants. Best if read before or during listening. Many excellent graphics provide better context.

What experience do you provide?

This has been an eye opening book for me. An entirely different perspective on what our business should look like.

excellent concept that gets dragged out.

the concept and delivery are excellent. The attempt to morph the idea of the experience economy into the transformative experience is under explained or over reached. The last few chapters feel like an add on.
