About this listen

If the marshlands could speak, whose name would they whisper?

On Memorial Day, 1992, three decorated navy officers disappeared in the sleepy beach town of Hansville, Washington. Thirty years later, their medals were found in the marshlands of Foulweather Bluff. So were their bones.

For private investigator Thomas Austin, this case hits close to home. The son of a JAG lawyer, Austin grew up around the navy. To solve the case, he must piece together clues buried in the marshlands and dark secrets hidden in navy history.

But when another investigator disappears, Austin realizes that the threat may not be in the past after all. In his most shocking, personal case yet, the darkness comes for Austin in a way it never has before. And the gut-wrenching final revelation leaves him questioning everything he’s ever known—even his own past.

Perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, Lisa Regan, Mary Stone, and Lee Child, The Fallen of Foulweather Bluff is a gripping mystery that will sweep you from the pebbly beaches of Western Washington to the polished halls of American military power.

The complexity and number of characters was at times confusing. If I had a day or two off from listening I began to wish I had written down character names & sometimes their profiles. Not necessarily a bad thing. There were several times that I needed to go back a couple of chapters to clarify a couple of things I generally listen while driving or doing every day task so I don’t always give a book 100% concentration. Therefore, the complexity was partially on my listening behavior.

I have become addicted to this series. The narrator is superb! Why is it DD black as famous as J Jans or Michael Connolly?

Terrific story and narration

Very likable characters. Development of relationships continues well. Interesting premise. Story does not drag. Very good narrator. BTW you can listen out of order. Stories stand alone. But there are references in each book to the story lines in previous ones. Heading on to the 4th!

Series remains solid - this is #3

I agree with previous review as to why D.D. Black is not better known. Nice concise story and doesn’t get bogged down with too many secondary stories. I will be happy though when the Fiona story has concluded.

Really liking this series

3rd in series and I was all in. Love to hear references to PNW. I am growing in my investment with the characters. The stories move along but this one got hitched on one thing for me. Does Mr Black have no Latino or Hispanic friends? Out of all the surnames in the world, where did “Delguato” come from? Maria Delguato appears to be Latina. No research no attention to detail. Disappointed. Like the 3rd date when you realize, not the one for me.

Really wanted to love this author but…
