After a devastating betrayal, a young woman sets off on an obsessive path to justice, no matter what dark family secrets are revealed. What she doesn’t know - she isn’t the only one plotting her revenge.
An affluent daughter of privilege. A glamorous manipulative wannabe. A determined reporter in too deep. A grieving widow who must choose her new reality. Who will be the first to lie? And when the stakes are life and death, do a few lies really matter?

Story
Grace Holloway keeps to herself. Since narrowly escaping death at the hands of the man who kidnapped her, she’s thrown herself into the small inn she runs in Rock Harbor, Maine. It’s quiet, quaint and, in the off-season, completely isolated—the perfect place for Grace to keep her own secrets. But Grace isn’t the only one with something to hide, and Rock Harbor isn’t just a sleepy vacation town. Someone is taking young women—girls who look an awful lot like Grace did when she was kidnapped so many years ago.

Leah and McKenna have never met, though they have parallel lives. They don’t—ever—find themselves in the same train carriage or meet accidentally at the gym or the coffee shop. Story
Of course, I’m not going to murder her in the night. I need my laptop back first. That’s the whole point of making friends with Emily Harper, author of the hugely successful novel Diary of an Octopus. So I could get into her apartment and take back what’s mine. Emily doesn’t know who I really am. She thinks I’m her biggest fan, her new best friend who happens to need a place to stay for a few days. She doesn’t realize the laptop she found—and took—from a busy airport almost two years ago was mine. I don’t care about the laptop, just what's on it: my diary.

Decent story but...
I thought the story / plot was good, however 2 things I didn’t care for: some of the narration was too low. I’m not sure how it plays is everyone’s car, but sometimes I had to turn the volume u to 30 to hear portions meant to be thoughts or whispers that were said quietly. Not the narrators fault, but annoying. Second, really didn’t care for the plot reveals and the ending.

Great Read
The First to Lie was a great read by Hank Phillippi Ryan. This book questions what would happen if you could become someone else in order to get what you want. A young woman was betrayed and goes on a very obsessive path to get justice. She will get that justice, no matter what dark secrets are revealed about her family. But she doesn’t realize that she isn’t the only person looking to get revenge. I loved reading this book and can’t wait to read more by Hank Philippi Ryan.

Childish story
The story was so annoyingly childish that I want everybody’s money back. It was far from interesting. Thank goodness the writing wasn’t elementary and the narration was good . The story was horrible – something for teenagers. All of this pretending to be someone else was a bit tedious.
