About this listen

Angela has lost hope. After nearly dying to the fiery grip of a Dalkhu, its terrifying flames have followed her home.

Being a soldier for her city of light, she's heard the legends before. When the Anchor Crystal broke and the world fragmented into three realms, aetherical energy separated and settled into every soul. This spiritual polarity creates the terrible effect known as the soul-flame. To the eye, it rages and consumes all. To the touch, it burns. But Angela has never seen it engulf her husband Michael before.

Distraught and haunted by visions of blazing fires, she’s trying to recover from her near-death experience but something is wrong with her soul. Michael and her commanding officers think she’s losing her mind until they see the flames spread across her skin. They declare her soul is tainted, and the hunt to put her down begins. To survive and set things right, Angela must track down the Dalkhu who touched her and reclaim her identity - or burn.

If you like ferocious heroines, stories inspired by ancient mythologies, and high magic set in an epic fantasy world, scroll up and listen now to begin The Flame Seer and the Crystal Mythos series.

mythological and magical

This was a great listen! The mythological and magical elements in the book were so creative and well thought out. I could tell the author had a direction and stuck to it. The narration was also beautiful and really encompassed the emotion of the scenes individually. The story was very unique, and had a fantastic setting, a great cast of characters and a really well paced flow. I definitely enjoyed and will look forward to book two.

Good

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I did like this book for the most part. The narration felt a bit "rushed". The narrator gave no pauses in between paragraphs or chapters. Everything just bled in together.

The story was good. It was an interesting take on good vs evil, angels vs demons. In some spots it felt rushed and in others, it felt a bit slow. The pacing could have been more consistent but this could be tied into the narration as well. The first fight scene was one big verbal vomit pushed together with no punctuation. I will have to go read the book to see if maybe I feel different about the pacing.

An interesting take on the angels vs demons trope

Narration: Was very good and enjoyable.

Story: An interesting take on the celestial war (angels vs demons) that weaves in a few parts of near east mythology. The basic plot starts with a powerful demonic spell going awry that sets up a traditional fugitive trope. The world building includes a multi-dimensional/world aspect that roughly seems to line up with heaven, earth and hell. Stir in a pinch of techno-magic and power stones (aka crystals) and it starts to resemble a familiar superhero story (with more personal drama that I care for). perhaps the biggest issue I have would be how it uses the soul; I can't figure out if it is really anything other that a plot device since it doesn't seem to do anything other than identify what world you are aligned to (it certainly doesn't seem to effect any concept of self). That said, in the end, nothing really stands out; it was a good story that was light enough to be fun with characters that appeared fairly simple and predictable. I think the narration from the audiobook does make it more entertaining and enjoyable, but if you have Kindle unlimited, you pick it up there too.
