About this listen

In "The Holly and the Ivy," a Pride and Prejudice Variation Christmas Novella, Elizabeth Bennet finds herself in the bustling streets of London in late 1812. Unexpectedly, she crosses paths with Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. They last met when Elizabeth vehemently rejected his proposal in March. Although Darcy's letter altered Elizabeth's perceptions, he avoided her, fearing the awkward aftermath.

A chance meeting rekindles their connection, prompting Darcy to embark on a mission to reshape Elizabeth's opinion of him. Seeking counsel from his cousin, the colonel, Darcy learns the art of smiling, complimenting, and giving thoughtful gifts. While shopping for Georgiana Darcy, they encounter a surprise threat from a footpad. Elizabeth is impressed by a new side of Darcy.

Elizabeth returns home to stay with Jane and Bingley. Jane invites Mr. Darcy and his sister to join them at Netherfield for Christmas. However, the scheming Caroline Bingley attempts to manipulate the situation. Thanks to Bingley's intervention, Darcy, and Elizabeth navigate the holiday challenges and reach a mutual understanding.

The symbolism of holly enriches the novella, representing good fortune, rebirth, and happy marriage.

My only complaint is it's too short :)

What a sweet seasonal novel! It's characters are true to their nature and the story follows after the original story line. There is a sweet relationship that evolves between EB and the Darcy's, the Gardiner's were key characters and level-headed and supportive in this story. the rest of the Bennett's were minor characters, which is ok with me! Jane & Bingley grew a backbone in this one. As per usual, Stevie Zimmerman was excellent. I loved it, I just wish it had been a couple hours longer.

The basic story line is EB finds herself in London before the holiday and encounters Darcy, she does some deep soul searching about her feelings for him, his feelings are unchanged. She spends some time with him there discovering his real character and getting to know his family and he getting to know hers. It's not a unique story, but it is sweet, and I liked that it had a holiday twist. It's a fun short listen.

The Holly

This is a sweet holiday story with changes in the events after the horrible Hunsford proposal. Lydia discovers Wickham’s true personality before Brighton, and stays home, a bit wiser. Bingley marries Jane much sooner, and stands up to the evil sister. Lizzy meets Darcy in London, thinking much better of him. They have a lovely romance, with only a small bit of bother from Caroline. No Wickham or Lady C! Very well narrated and a pleasant few hours of enjoyment.
