About this listen

Fresh from his success with the search and rescue of the USS Omega Deep, Sam Reilly was looking forward to some much-needed rest. Not everyone had the same idea though.

When a panicked man with purple eyes grabs him at gunpoint and takes him hostage, Sam knows that this is more than a mere ransom opportunity; this man is scared of something....

And Sam is going to have to find what it is if he wants to get out of this alive.

This was my intro to Sam Reilly - I am Hooked!

I really enjoyed this. Christopher Cartwright must do a massive amount of research for his novels...Genetic research, Appalachian topography, ABS systems in the Porsche Cayenne. I'm seriously impressed.

David Gilmore does a great job.

Can't wait to listen to more.

So enjoyable

The Holy Grail, my thirteenth read from author Christopher Cartwright & the thirteenth book in the highly entertaining Sam Reilly series. This book takes a new turn in the on-going theme of the master builders. Well-written thriller with captivating & well-developed main characters. Reminds me of Dan Brown’s writing. These books have been a rollicking adventure & I’ll be reading more by this author as I already own more books in the series. Narrator David Gilmore’s narration added to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Not as good as the rest

While this was still a good story, it seemed like it was just designed to introduce an important new character. Pleanty of the thrills and twists you have come to expect from a Sam Reilly book. But it was just missing something.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review

Loved It!!

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I love Sam Reilly; his cool logic, grace under fire and fast thinking. I listened to this one in one sitting, growling whenever I got interrupted (not kidding). Anyway, like all the other Sam Reilly books this one is awesome. I love how Mr Cartwright writes and the amount of research he puts into his books, yet the details don't bog the story down. The narration is very well done by David Gilmore, as usual. He really owns this series and keeps the voices the same from their first appearance to latest. I appreciate how Mr Gilmore doesn't go over the top with the characters' emotions, it just wouldn't fit. This is well written and excellently executed. If you are a Sam Reilly fan then you won't want to miss out on this one. The ending was a nice surprise too!

The Master Builders strike again!

This time, trouble finds Sam Reilly. Sam is taken hostage by a man escaping from an interrogation room in the Pentagon. This man started his day normally, wanting to donate blood for his friend who had been in a motorcycle accident. After giving his blood for testing, several times, he was detained and then drugged. He awoke in the interrogation room at the Pentagon being questioned by the FBI. Not knowing what was going on, being detained against his will, he overpowered the FBI agent and ran into Sam Reilly. Sam’s instinct knew there was more to this story, so he helped Ben escape from the Pentagon. A short car ride to a nearby airport, a “borrowed” helicopter, and Sam and Ben were on their way to safety. Or so Sam thought. F-16s and an air-to-air missile put an end to their flight. Now Sam was angry; who had put a kill order on him and his unknown passenger? All leads pointed to Bolshoi Zayatsky Island in the Onega Bay of the White Sea, in Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia. The island is home to a huge obsidian labyrinth and home to origins of the Master Builders. Parents of Ben Ghelly, John and Jenny Ghelly were leaders of a terrorist cult back in the 1970s attempting to recreate the Phoenix Plague, a virus designed to bring the world’s population to its knees. The cult was destroyed, but John and Jenny Ghelly escaped. How was all of this tied to Ben, did he have a role in any terrorist activity? Who had initiated the kill order on Sam and Ben, and why? Sam aimed to find out. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Love This Series!

The Holy Grail is book 13 in this fine series, and each one is more entertaining. Loved the idea of this one. An innocent man who donates blood, only to find himself wanted as a number one terrorist. Sam Reilly may be the only one to help him, but he doesn’t know the whole story.

Well written, concise, with plenty of twists and engaging dialog. This one may be my favorite (though I seem to be saying that now with each new book).

I received a free copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily written this review. Narrator David Gilmore IS the voice of Sam Reilly—as he has been throughout the series.

Action Packed!

So awesome! I loved the narrator, he gives so much life to the characters and story. I laughed out loud at the parts where Sam Reilly is in yet another disaster situation, and you can hear the narrator catching just the right inflections while Sam just grits his teeth, powers through, and makes wry comments. Christopher Cartwright is a genius at weaving history, present day, and future technology into an unbelieveble and exciting story, that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I don’t know how he comes up with so much new material. Every story is a new adventure, I totally lose myself in them!
