A thrilling new story featuring Gregg Hurwitz's New York Times best-selling Orphan X!

Joey Morales was the last recruit of the government's full black operation, the Orphan Program. Trained to be an assassin until she washed out, she was rescued by Evan Smoak, the former agent known as Orphan X.

Now Joey, still a teenager and under the watchful eye of Evan Smoak, lives on her own (with Dog the dog) and attends college.

While on campus, she tries to stop a young woman's suicide attempt - and fails. Then Joey uncovers the reason for Becca Morgan's desperate act - a document called The List, which ranks and rates women around campus based on their sexual appeal and performance.

Determined to find the boys behind The List, the ones whose callous acts drove Becca Morgan to suicide, Joey recruits the help of her mentor, Orphan X, and uses all her skills to uncover and expose the ones responsible.

Usually working from the shadows, Joey has to put herself on the line and in harm's way this time to not just avenge the dead, but to protect the rest of the women who are targets of the hidden cabal behind The List.

Great Story

I don’t often do reviews so when I do it’s for a reason. This was GREAT. I also normally hate the shorts. As I like to lock in for a good long listen but still I loved this one. Great listen til the next full length comes out. And Joey needs to get her own full length. Like Mickey Haller with the Bosch series. Different stories but they always tie in. Check it out people that’s what I am saying !!!

Melodrama interferes

Overall I like this series. A certain amount of self reflection is ok, but there is definately way too much and as talented as Scott Brick is as a narrator, his 'delivery with feeling' approach is a bit overboard. The combination ends up feeling whiny and melodramatic. The story and characters are great, but he melodramatic feel got in the way for me.

How Joie harnesed her emotions when confronting the footballer, yet unable to control herself when meeting the parents.

The transitions were difficult initially . I had to rewind to ensure I hadn't missed anything.

It may be a short, but it's worth every minute!

I didn't wanna like Joey when Gregg brought her into the series. I LOVE HER. I literally smiled my whole way thru this short. Every single piece of the book (as a whole) just made me happy. I love how Joey is growing. I love her relationship with Evan. I love how EVAN is growing. Did I mention I love Dog? I can't wait for January for Prodigal Son.

Great insight into what might be coming!

I enjoyed getting to see deeper into jo as a character. I was afraid the orphan X stories were going to get stale but this really opens it up to exciting possibilities!

Short but worth the price

Joey is a great character and can stand on her own. Nice that X was around but I would definitely buy a book just about her.

This short story is so good.

Too short for the money

These books are expensive. I didn’t realize how short this was. I wouldn’t have purchased if I’d noticed. I liked it except I need my money’s worth for the time.

Another Great Story

Another great story, though way too short, focusing on the wonderfully developed Joey who helps X find his inner humanity. It’s great having a strong, smart, yet vulnerable female action character.
