Publisher's summary

Long ago, following a cataclysm called the Rupture, the world was shattered into many floating celestial islands, now known as arks. Over each, the spirit of an omnipotent and immortal ancestor abides. The inhabitants of these arks each possess a unique power. Ophelia, with her ability to read the pasts of objects, must navigate this complex world using her trademark tenacity and quiet strength.

With its unforgettable heroine, rich and bountiful universe, and intrigue and suspense, Christelle Dabos's highly acclaimed The Mirror Visitor Quartet is perfect for fans of Margaret Rogerson’s An Enchantment of Ravens, Melissa Albert’s The Hazel Wood, V.E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic series, Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone, Kenneth Oppel’s Airborne series, and N.K. Jemisin's Broken Earth series.

Started off good, got worse

It was a really interesting idea and well executed, but it got very confusing and detail oriented and the relationship never really went anywhere. I wish I had stopped a couple books in.

Continues to surprise you at every turn

First of all, putting all 4 books into a single audible book was fantastic because I used one credit for all 4. Thrilled!
This quartet had me absolutely on my toes the whole time. The ending left me with a cliff hanger which is why I gave a 4 star instead of 5. I hate the guessing with no definitive answer.
Overall great read, and reccomended for those looking for a new universe to delve into.

Great story. Disappointing narrator

Although the narrator created different voices for each character, I disagreed with the personalities those voices implied.

The voice actor for the most part kept up with the different voices

I wish the ending was happier. I wish she got her love in the end.

Started off great

I loved books one through three but the author really lost me by the fourth book. I just think the author kind of went off into separate story lines and ended up being kind of hard to follow. She ties everything together by the end…

Started off good but ending was disappointing

Starting, it felt promising. Interesting world building, different types of magic. But as the ending was approaching, it felt extremely rushed and felt like the author was just ready to end it. The ending was left open, but it was a bit of a sad ending to me, which to me I enjoy a sad ending. The narrator I enjoyed. Giving each characters their own voices so it’s easier to keep up with who is talking.

narrator not my favourite

weird long pauses, huge differences in volume that made me keep having to turn the sound up and down in order to understand. also disagreed with her portrayal of a few of the characters (Archibald particularly) and the way she interpreted lines differently from how they were written, ie one character says something "sensuously" and she shouted it like an old timey auctioneer, or the text says the character rolls all their Rs and her narration doesnt do that (i get its a translation but its still in there). shes good, just too many hours in a row of this stuff and it started to really grate on me.

the first two books i loved, this lost me part way through the third.

what a journey

It was so much fun to listen to this story. Book 1 and 2 was amazing and then it lost steam. But it's still well worth a listen.

narrator did a good job. and production was solid.

Disappointed

Story 4.5⭐
Romance 2.8⭐
Spice 0⭐
The story is great, there is an interesting twist, plenty of adventure and character development.
The romance is kind of sweet but... Ophelia and Thorn are married and the author acts like a simple kiss is as spicy as jalapeno peppers. It's not!
I was really disappointed.

Thorn and Ophelia relationship was developing, a little oddly, but it had it sweet moments and I enjoyed them, but when you reach the pinnacle point where you think something is going to happen, they have a moment and their it fades to black.
Its not like I was expecting a full on spicy scene but I was hoping for more then a very simple kiss like maybe a little passionate kissing or some caresses.
