About this listen

On a cold January night, Sharon Lemke heads outside to see a lunar eclipse when she notices something odd at the house behind her backyard. Through her neighbor's kitchen window, she sees what appears to be a little girl washing dishes late at night. But the Fleming family doesn't have a child that age, and even if they did, why would she be doing housework at this late hour?

It would be easy for Sharon to just let this go, but when eighteen-year-old Niki, a former foster child, comes to live with Sharon, she notices suspicious activity at the Flemings' house as well. When calling social services doesn't result in swift action, the two decide to investigate on their own…

Top notch narration weaves a strong story together

I loved the way the story and the narrator blended seamlessly to create an immersive listening experience. Stacey is a true artist. The story was powerful and lovely. Well done.

Great story

Loved the suspenseful plot, and kindness of some of the characters, but disliked the mild profanity. Great narration !

Well written and marriages book

The book keeps you hooked. So well written with such an amazing story, a real story for too many foster kids, I so wish most of the will have the end the little one here did. All characters were well played . I want more books like this.

Ease of understanding who the characters were and how they fit together.

I really found nothing to dislike. The only issue I ever had was skipping sometimes. But I am sure that was just a wifi problem.

Annoying narrator, decent story

For many novels, hearing it as an audiobook adds to the experience. This was one that I wish I’d read rather than listened to though. The narrator didn’t have an annoying voice overall but she portrayed several of the characters (especially Sharon and often Jacob) in really annoying, whiny ways. I think I might have liked those characters more if there wasn’t the overlay of a childlike, petulant tone. Sharon was particularly grating—being grandma age myself, did she really have to play to such an old lady stereotype? By the end, it was hard to tolerate that. I thought the characters and plot were a little simplistic but appreciated that the author didn’t feel the need to dip into violence as many mystery writers do. It was a light read and fairly enjoyable.

I can't really pick out one thing I love the whole story.

the only thing that displeased me is the depiction of the elderly people in this story. I am an 86-year-old woman and if you were to speak to me on the phone you would think of me as being maybe in my thirties I don't have a quivering voice and that was the only thing that displeased me about this whole thing
