Knowledge is power, knowledge is safety, knowledge is happiness.... But sometimes, ignorance is bliss.
Taryn and his closest allies safely acquired the dragon core and left Haven City behind, departing for lands unknown. They were content with the knowledge that life would go on without them, and few, if any, would miss the itinerant cultivators.
Without the pressure of the clans weighing on them night and day, Taryn, the Xia twins, and Fan Shun are finally free to find their own places in the world.... But the Mourner lied, and that lie is quickly coming back to haunt Taryn.
Taryn didn't save Haven City by taking the dragon core with him, nor did he delay the inevitable. The city was attacked mere days after the group’s departure, and its infallible wall was shattered, leaving the clans at the mercy of a cultivator of unimaginable power.
To save themselves and their city, the residents of Haven have sworn an oath to their conqueror. They must find the one responsible for Gu Qigang's death and return the treasure Taryn "stole" if they want to survive.
Will Taryn's journey to a better future be stopped by the shackles of his past? Should he sacrifice himself for the only home he's ever known, flawed as it was...or will he fight toward a brighter future, consequences be damned?
From Kenneth Arant, best-selling author of the Snake’s Life series, comes a brand-new cultivation adventure perfect for fans of xanxia, demon beasts, and mystic martial arts of all types.

For the plot, the story follows mc as he flees from his home and attempts to find a new one. They meet some people get screwed over and some old characters re-appear. All the while mc slowly builds his strength. The plot twist is one I expected but still a pretty awesome one.
All in all, i love it. Stuff isnt over explained nor is it all shoved in your face all at once, there is some world building but not too much. (I fully admit i dislike mc using a meteor hammer as i personally find it a stupid weapon) Combat is well written and the other characters arent idiots, if anything mc is mostly portrayed as ignorant and he never really becomes some all knowing monster and even when it seems like he does Author does a shake up and makes it so things are different.
All in all, a great book and I dont get the hate, I think people are possible expecting a harry potter/western style novel in terms of pacing which this is not. It is thoroughly a wuxia sub-genre (martial arts cultivation) and a slightly happier one at that.
Its an amazing wuxia that is pretty well paced

I don't know that this was intentional. It may not be, but it came across as someone who just isn't very familiar with Asian names and ways of speech. Also it wasn't necessary. If anything it diminished my enjoyment of the story. The first book in this series wasn't narrated in this manner. If the desire was for Asian sounding characters, find an Asian narrator.
Good story ruined by Stereotyping

I attack you, you kill my friend while defending urself ...therefore ur a murderer and I must have my revenge?!? ...why?
...I guess it's meant for a younger audience.
It's a pretty standard cultivation novel. Nothing about it is especially good. There's a world, ppl have powers, there r fights.
Nothing special. The writing is fine, except for the forced drama thing.
I don't think I'm going to keep going with this one, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from giving it a try.
It's not bad ...I just think it cud be better is all.
Drama is forced ...makes no sense
