About this listen

Shy and gawky, Ana has always daydreamed about living the life of her exotic half-sister Bee, a pop singer who had a number one hit single before she inexplicably vanished from the celebrity scene.

When Bee turns up dead, Ana is dispatched to the big city to clear out her apartment. Instantly seduced by the second-hand glamour of Bee's baubles, bangles, and bottles of Pierre-Jouet, Ana takes up with Bee's wild club-hopping cronies.

News of a missing cat and a remote country cottage soon convince Ana that her sister was leading a secret life. Now, she's is on a mission to discover what really happened to Bee Bearhorn, the one-hit wonder - and what is about to happen to the unremarkable Ana Wills.

Wonderful

Lisa is such a good writer. Her ability to spin a tail with all the details is fantastic. I became absorbed in her story and couldn’t wait for the next twist and turn. I enjoyed the way she writes . I like her stories, and I look forward to her next book that I listen to. Thank you.

A Really good read

It was pleasantly different than my usual books. I couldn’t predict the end.
I found it interesting to learn about so many different personalities.
I loved it

One hit wonder

I knew I’d like this book- I like all of Lisa Jewell’s writing- i just didn’t think i was going to enjoy it as much as i did.

Once i got past the first 1/4, the story really evolved and the characters became interesting. (even the cat.)

Some of it was predictable but I love how this author always ties everything up neatly and it all comes together in the end. ❤️

Lisa Jewell never fails

I used to read only psychological thrillers. But Lisa Jewell has converted me. Again, you get to know her characters and they become friends
This was no different

Different kinda vibe Lisa Jewell

- but I loved it! Overall story was great and I was happy with the ending - which I didn’t predict. Yay!

Performance: The narrator was a little much at times.

I never get tired of Lisa Jewell’s books

Great story as usual! Narrator was fantastic too. Just a really good, easy reading. Or listening to book and lots of drama. So good!

Not my favorite

Not my favorite of Lisa Jewell. Last 90 minutes were unnecessary in my opinion. Kept waiting for the twist.

A Constellation of Characters that Illuminate the Pop Star at the Center

At one level this is a mystery about the tragic death of Bea, a one hit wonder Pop Star—at another it is a wonderful exploration of the lives that she amazingly drew into her orbit. Funny, poignant, and engaging with a varied mix of interesting and well drawn characters. Not usually a fan of this genre but I loved this book and thought it was exceptional.

Wonderful as all of her books

Beautiful story, heartwarming and delicate, so much to identify with several of the characters. Sucker for the British accent ….

Wonderful, with Qualifications...

Lisa Jewell's writing is beautiful, her characters are so well developed I can see them clearly as I listen. Helen Duff's narration is a pleasure to listen to. The story contains themes of facing one's false beliefs and taking steps to break out of old patterns to become unstuck. I enjoyed those parts of the book, but there was also an element of One-Hit Wonder that was so-very sad, I didn't like the heavy melancholic feeling the book left me with.
