About this listen

As kids, best friends Willa Dunn and Lee Chandler spend every summer together at the idyllic Upstate New York community of Forestlands Lake, nestled in the foothills of the Taconic Mountains. During the summer before they turn sixteen—just as the two are discovering that there might be something more to their friendship—a tragic accident befalls Willa's family and without warning, Willa and Lee's world is torn apart.

Twenty-five years later, Willa is a successful author of the young adult ghost stories she loved to read as a child. She returns to the lake looking for a writer's retreat and an opportunity to connect with her troubled teenage sister, Nicole.

Lee, now a single mother to her wise-beyond-her-years teenage daughter Maggie, is the director of the summer camp on the other side of Forestlands Lake.

Before Willa and Nicole even have the chance to unpack, their plans are upset by a mysterious young girl, a near-drowning, and a surprise reunion. Soon Willa and Lee are working to protect the girls, reconcile their past, and unearth the secrets surrounding Forestlands Lake—putting old ghosts to rest once and for all.

Contains mature themes.

If you like paranormal suspense you must read this . As a person who usually figures out the who done it very early on in a story , this one had me stumped all the way until the reveal. Fantastic stuff Carolyn . Absolute must read.

Amazing plotting

I am not a ghost story great fan, but this one was excellent, shows me that I should read a book even if the main topic is not really my cup of tea. Well written, excellent narration.

Loved it

Interesting storyline, good characters, and great narration. A little suspense, a bit of romance, some teenage attitude, and totally worth the listen!

Really enjoyed this one

This was a wonderful spooky read with a sapphic romance and ode to friendships to carry it along.

Love!

I’m a big fan of Carolyn Elizabeth and this book did not disappoint! Great suspense-I must say I never figured it out-and a beautiful love story. Even though, some of the topics were hard, the author did a great job also making me smile and even laugh at times. The narration was great! The narrator did a great job with the voices of the kids, teens and adults! Five stars all the way!

The narrator is fantastic in developing characters with unique voices and conveying relationships clearly through inflection. Great listen.

The story and characters were so well drawn . . .

This story was surprisingly good with supernatural undertones. It also has many emotions I laughed in some places, smiled, teared up, felt disgusted, and felt the love. Highly recommend reading. The Narrator was fairly good.

surprisingly good

Enjoyable book, not her best though. The first part dragged a bit, but the rest was good. I felt the character development could be better. Not a lot of depth. The 'whodunit' part was a surprise. The romance was lacking, the one sex scene was vanilla... so those looking for romance this isn't a book for you. It was a solid mystery, for those looking for a suspenseful read.
The narrator was EXCELLENT!

Not bad

One of the characters is crappy to another and they take all the blame for it. It’s annoying. I liked the sister and daughter of the main characters.

Lee is an a$$
