About this listen

It takes a few wrong turns to find the right way.

Paul thought he was on his way. From a small-town Connecticut kid to the most prestigious consulting firm in the world, he had everything he thought he wanted. Yet he decided to walk away and embark on the "real work" of his life - finding the things that matter and daring to create a life to make them happen.

This Pathless Path is about finding yourself in the wrong life, and the real work of figuring out how to live. Through painstaking experiments, living in different countries and the goodwill of people from around the world, Paul pieces together a set of ideas and principles that guide him from unfulfilled and burned out to the good life and all of the existential crises in between.

The Pathless Path is not a how-to book filled with “hacks”; instead, it is a vulnerable account of Paul’s journey from leaving a path centered around getting ahead and towards another, one focused on doing work that matters. This book is an ideal companion for people considering leaving their jobs, embarking on a new path, dealing with the uncertainty of an unconventional path, or searching for better models for thinking about work in a fast-changing world.

Nice story

This is a nice story about the authors life and how he made changes but I don’t feel like I got much advice or steps to follow from the narrative.

Not for those with mortgages and kids

Cool personal experience but not applicable to people who cannot just quit their job because they have mortgages and people who depend on them.
Great for those in their 20s with a few attachments and freedom to make mistakes and move

The Story That I Needed to Hear

Having followed Paul's journey for awhile, I was excited for this audiobook. And it delivered even beyond my high hopes.

I thought it was interesting how some parts of my life were similar and others radically different, and yet I was able to relate to so much of what he talked about.

It can be lonely at times, when others around you don't understand your journey, but this book helped me find kinship in other paths.

I highly recommend this audiobook if you're looking for or thinking about other ways of living. To paraphrase Paul, if you're looking for permission, I grant it.

Just what I needed

Great book, full of story and clever takeaways. There were several gut-punch moments in it, that I will never forget.

Absorb Freedom

There are some YouTube channels that I’ve watched (for example, about credit card points and travel) not so much for the information, but more so to absorb the personality and character of the person so that I could have the courage to do the things they’re doing. THIS BOOK IS LIKE THAT. The info isn’t earth shattering. Most of it you’ve probably heard before. But this author has gone from a “9 to 5” life to freedom, and hearing about his journey helps to absorb the courage to do it myself.

Engaged in curiosity

I appreciate that the author gave me the confidence to see things through a different lens and to acknowledge the fact that my relationship with work in the second half of life will be much different than default.

He booked everyone in the US should read!

Here in the US, as in many other countries, live our lives, according to a default script that we don’t even realize. This book opened my eyes to that. I left a very high paying job a couple of years ago to start a business that holds promise, but that has very little guarantees. This book helped me to feel better about my decision and reinforced my thoughts about what I want my life to be. However, even if you don’t want to leave your job, or move overseas, or make any drastic changes, this book is still valuable, and that it forces you to really think about what is important in your life and spurs you to make things better

Please challenge my dogmas and beliefs. I knew they sucked 🙂

A tidal wave that will challenge your worldview with a brutally honest stance whilst punctuated with many words of belief, hope and encouragement
