About this listen

In this first of four classic frontier novels, Louis L'Amour adds his own special brand to the life and adventures of one of America's favorite fictional cowboys, Hopalong Cassidy. In The Rustlers of West Fork, the quick-thinking, fast-shooting cowpuncher heads west to deliver a fortune in bank notes to his old friend, Dick Jordan.

When he arrives at the Circle J, he discovers that the rancher and his daughter, Pam, are being held prisoner by a desperate band of outlaws led by the ruthless Avery Sparr and his partner Arnold Soper. Even if Hopalong Cassidy can free Jordan and Pam, he will have to lead them across rough and untamed Apache country, stalked by the outlaws who have vowed to gun him down. But Hopalong is no stranger to trouble, and before his guns or his temper cool, he's determines to round up Sparr and his gang and bring the outlaws to justice ... dead or alive! This classic tale of pursuit and survival is vintage L'Amour and adds new life and luster to the legend of Hopalong Cassidy.

Hopalong Cassidy

I think I like the Hopalong Cassidy character better thatmn most of L.Ls. characters as he isn't so 'bulletproof' as some of his other characters. I've never cared for the two gun carrying heros because it's not the was it was. one Colt revolver and gunbelt is heavy enough, hardly anyone carried two. Even though Hoppy carries two, they are played down a little. I really enjoyed the story and the narrator was excellent! For me, a bad narrator will ruin a book. I don't care for Jim Goughs narration and he unfortunately narrates a lot of L.Ls. books.

First audible book, and it was absolutely amazing!

This was my first audible book, and I absolutely loved it! Louis L'amour was an amazing writer. Kept me interested and not wanting to stop listening the entire time. I am hooked now and going to definitely get more L'amour audible books. This was a great story and was amazed to find out L'amour wouldn't take credit for it.

another great Louis L'Amour story.

I appreciate Louis l'amour's stories because they are devoid of profanity, and they are wonderful, engaging, stories. this was no exception although Louis L'Amour denied writing it until his death. every time I put it down I was anxious to pick it up again and resume reading.

Good reader, but...

Petkoff overemphasizes for dramatic effect too often and unnecessarily at times. He is a good reader, but too often stresses the last word of a paragraph, like "because he was DEAD!"

Sounds contrived.

Classic Western

Awesome storyline and well read. I wasn’t sure I would like the Hopalong book as the shows I had seen in my youth were always a bit hokey, but the Cassidy in these books is anything but!!! Enjoy!

A very entertaining woven story

Where does The Rustlers of West Fork rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The whole series of books that are available that Louis L'Amour wrote with the character Hopalong Cassidy are very good and well written. I highly recommend listening to the series as they all are well written and well done on audible.
