About this listen

Over the next five years, millions of more Americans are expected to take Ozempic and other GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, which are rapidly being recognized as the miracle drugs of this century. If you’re not on them, you’ll probably know someone who is. What are the implications of the widespread use of these drugs, both on our bodies and our society? In this show, you’ll meet people across America who are either taking the jab or thinking about it, and the shocking intentional and unintentional results they are seeing. The Thin Line looks at the promise and the peril of GLP-1s today, and explores what will happen in the near future with the democratization of these breakthrough drugs.

More balanced than expected and very comprehensive

For the record, I’m not longer with WW for reasons I think the host could pick up on during our interview. Kudos for including the attempted interference from corporate PR person. I hollered. It’s art. Thanks for putting this together Scaachi et al. -Summer (ch 7)

Informative and entertaining

I really appreciated the candor in reporting. I felt the information was well balanced and well researched. But not boring! It was relevant and evaluated an important timely issue from many angles. Plus I love this authors mom being involved. What a great and very personal touch. Because we all care about what our moms think, even if they are not ‘experts’.

Some interesting tidbits

I found several chapters interesting and thought provoking. It’s an attempt at considering multiple aspects and impact of these new medications (not just medical but also psychological, on couples and dating, on various businesses, on addiction….). In the minus side, the parts about diet seem caricatural and unscientific , and there are parts that are. amusingly woke.

A Must Read !!!

Serious illness present within any household substantially impacts financial and emotional aspects of every individual domiciled within that respective household. A family member's illness influences, often negatively, every aspect of their entire household. During the beginning of 2024 my wife was diagnosed with diabetes and her physician prescribed a GLP-1 medication to simultaneously treat her diabetes and reduce her weight. Prior to my wife's GLP-1 treatment I had no knowledge of the weight reduction regiment, it's positive or negative side effects. Up until my wife's introduction to GLP-1 treatment I had been a 17 year continuous Lifetime Member of Weight Watcher's Inc. having lost 68 pounds and never gained it back through a continuous and regimented exercise and nutritional program. I was like a "Babe In The Woods", a "Naive Innocent" relative to the new world of GLP-1.

Everything changed for my wife and my household with the introduction of the GLP-1 treatment. Why was my wife's behavior changing as a result of the medication? As her long term spouse, for me having no bases of knowledge from which to draw from, my wife's sudden side effects of noxiousness, diarrhea and sulfur burp's became quite scary. Knowledge is Power, and I'm a prolific reader and long term subscriber to Audible.com. This special addition covering the new world of GLP-1 was an absolute comfort, and provided me with the raw data I required to understand and fully empathize with the ordeal my wife has been experiencing with her GLP-1 treatment. I'm an "Old School" weight lost through behavior and nutritional modification individual but it's incumbent upon me to fully understand all the ramifications of my wife's new treatment regiment. Candidly, I believe the road to sustained weight control should only be traveled by those exercising behavior modification, nutritional constraint, and exercise regiments, but that is a personal decision on my part.

For every person in contact with a family member, friend, or even casual associate who is currently on any brand GLP-1, this Audible Special is a "Must Read" from beginning attentively through the very end!

Best Research Ever

I rarely write reviews because I feel no one reads them, but I felt compelled to write a review on this very well done, comprehensive review of GLP-1’s. As someone who has struggled with weight (plus I just had a baby) and the stigma of losing weight “naturally”, this documentary gave me great perspective. The interviewer ask all the hard questions and pulls research from everywhere to help you make an informed decision. My key takeaways are; society has taught us to not be okay with being “overweight”, when the weight is lost we always strive to be thinner, the BMI index is hogwash (especially for non white men), and lastly, like anything else, use GLP-1’s responsibly. Meaning, consult with an actual doctor to rev up or down when starting and/or stopping. The interviewer also does an amazing job at breaking down all the science and data. If you are thinking about taking the shot, listen to this entire show first!

Various opinions

Good look at both sides of the story. I was glad that the information was brought out about the risks of compounded medication. I am a nurse practitioner in Tennessee and remember the people who died due to contaminated injectable steroids. Compounded meds do not have FDA safeguards. I also have taken Ozempic for pre diabetes and have lost 35 pounds and be able to stop Metformin and a blood pressure medication. I wish these meds were more affordable as they can help prevent diabetes and many of it’s complications. Glad I listened to this!
