About this listen
The first comprehensive user guide to GLP-1s (such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound) with an overview of how they work and possible side effects. Also including companion recipes, exercise guidance, and new habits to maintain lifelong health and keep weight off for good.
The newest class of weight loss drugs (GLP-1s) are complete game-changers in their potential to reverse obesity and its related diseases, with nearly 50% of Americans qualifying for the use of these drugs. Already 1 in 8 Americans say they’ve tried a GLP-1 medication—but with many acquiring their prescription from online pharmacies, med spas, and general practitioners, they face a huge gap between trying the drug and achieving their health goals with it long-term.
That’s where The Ozempic Revolution comes in. Alexandra Sowa, MD, a leading obesity medicine specialist, shares her expertise on this much-discussed but largely misunderstood class of medications, including information like:
- What the GLP-1 experience really feels like
- How to know if you’re a candidate for these medications
- How to get a prescription and get it covered by insurance
- How to manage and reduce unwanted side effects
- Unique food plans and strategies for managing the mental challenges of losing weight
- Simple, easy recipes for when you don’t feel like eating
Traditional and social media has been flooded with junk information and stigmatizing headlines about GLP-1s, and in this book, Dr. Sowa digs into all of it—the good, the bad, and the ugly—bringing the science to light.
If you’re curious about how GLP-1s might fit into your life, or want to optimize your experience while taking them, then Dr. Sowa’s clear-eyed, fully informed approach is a must-hear. The Ozempic revolution changes everything: these drugs finally provide a viable, healthy, and sane way to lose weight, avoid disease, and maintain your health gains for life.

Story
GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) is a hormone that plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels and appetite. It is released from the intestines in response to food intake and stimulates the release of insulin from the pancreas, which helps lower blood sugar levels. Additionally, GLP-1 slows down the emptying of the stomach, leading to increased feelings of fullness and reduced food intake. In the context of weight management, GLP-1-based medications are used to help individuals with obesity or type 2 diabetes control their weight.

Story
In January 2023, bestselling author Johann Hari started to inject himself once a week with Ozempic, the diabetes drug that produces significant weight loss. He wasn’t alone—credible predictions suggest that in two years, a quarter of the U.S. population will be taking this class of drug. Proponents say that this is a biological solution to a biological problem. While 95 percent of diets fail, the average person taking one of the new drugs will lose a quarter of their body weight in six months, and keep it off for as long as they take it.

Brooke Shields has spent a lifetime in the public eye. Growing up as a child actor and model, her every feature was scrutinized, her every decision judged. Today Brooke faces a different kind of scrutiny: that of being a “woman of a certain age.” And yet, for Brooke, the passage of time has brought freedom. At fifty-nine, she feels more comfortable in her skin, more empowered and confident than she did decades ago in those famous Calvin Kleins. Now, in Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old, she’s changing the narrative about women and aging.

Frederick Fife was born with an extra helping of kindness in his heart. If he borrowed your car, he’d return it washed with a full tank of gas. The problem is there’s nobody left in Fred’s life to borrow from. At eighty-two, he’s desperately lonely, broke, and on the brink of homelessness. But Fred’s luck changes when, in a bizarre case of mistaken identity, he takes the place of grumpy Bernard Greer at the local nursing home. Now he has warm meals in his belly and a roof over his head—as long as his poker face is in better shape than his prostate and that his look-alike never turns up.

According to Alan Christianson, NMD, our bodies are under attack from all directions - an overabundance of processed food, a polluted world, and the pressures of daily life all take their toll. These attacks hit a little known but very important set of glands, the adrenals, particularly hard. One of the many jobs of the adrenals is to maintain a normal cortisol rhythm.

Fitness coach Ben Carpenter spent his entire adult life working in the fitness industry, researching the real science and studies behind fat loss, and answering questions with simplified, unbiased answers. Ben's point is this: The best weight loss diet doesn't exist. From keto to intermittent fasting, no diet is superior. They all work in the short term, but are rarely sustainable for the long term. The better solution is to maintain stronger, positive motivators that make us want to stay healthy; the easiest way to do this is through simple, effective habits.

There’s a lot of noise out there about how to spend (and not spend) your hard-earned money. But, long considered our most “beastly” sense, the inner workings of smell have stumped scientists for centuries. Now, cognitive scientist and leading smell researcher Jonas Olofsson uncovers the sophisticated biological processes that animate our olfactory system, with profound implications for how we perceive the world around us.

Lovely narration of facts and science for achieving health goals with weight loss drugs
In this well written book, Dr Alexandra Sowa skillfully guides the listener through the science and reality of weight loss drugs like Ozempic. She addresses the mis-information and misconceptions we’ve all heard. Using many examples drawn from patient experiences in her 10-year practice, she explains what people need to know and do to achieve good health. Her narration is a pleasure. She speaks in a tone of expertise and humanity using perfect diction. I learned a great deal about the subject and enjoyed every sentence.

I may have shed a few tears reading this book
I was a bit leery purchasing this book. I realize Dr. Sowa has a brand and products, and I didn't want this book to be full of advertising or pushing what I cannot afford. That was far from the case. Dr. Sowa did a phenomenal job with explaining while educating about obesity and the weight loss drugs available. I cried a few times in listening, realizing how much shame I have carried for so long with my obesity. Dr. Sowa's matter of fact approach really helped move this book along and I can maintain the information needed. If you are on the fence about reading this book, and on Glp-1 medication, I highly encourage you to purchase it and think of it as a tool to keep handy for your weight loss journey.

Informative book
It was very informative and has changed my view on weight loss meds. I have been thinking about trying Ozempic, but have been fearful. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. Tried every diet out there, and thought this was another fad diet. After listening to the book I don’t feel like it’s a fad and have a better understanding of obesity and Ozempic.
