Publisher's summary
Men and women grieve differently. Though both feel the pain and sorrow that come with losing a spouse, widowers start dating much sooner than widows - usually within the first year of their wife's passing. While there's nothing wrong with dating again that quickly, widowers often get into relationships before they're emotionally ready to take that step. That causes problems for them and the women they're with.
That's where The Ultimate Dating Guide for Widowers comes in. Drawing on the success stories and learning experiences of Joe Biden, Thomas Edison, Pierce Brosnan, and Paul McCartney, this book specifically addresses questions, concerns, and needs of widowers, including:
- How to know if you're really ready to date again
- Overcoming feelings of guilt about starting another relationship
- Balancing your dating life with the needs and wants of your children
- How to make room in your heart for someone else
The Ultimate Dating Guide for Widowers is the definitive guide for widowers who are looking to sort out their conflicting emotions and avoid common pitfalls that come with dating the second time around. It's a must-listen for any man who's looking to ease the transition from an old life to a new one.

Story
The greatest fear I had during my grieving was that I was losing control, going crazy, and might make decisions that would harm myself, my family, and my friends. This included suicidal thoughts, which scared the hell out of me. I was desperate to find answers. Quickly, I found those answers would be hard to find, as resources for widowers are minimal and often of dubious value. In Widower to Widower, I've compiled the most vital information I could find on the widower experience into one book, so the listener does not have to search as hard as I had to do.

Studies keep showing that love after 50 is more satisfying than at any other stage in life, and it makes sense: At this stage, you are more emotionally stable and more focused on the present; you know what you absolutely have to have, but also what you can live without; partnering is no longer about building family and fortune — it’s about sharing intimacy as grounded individuals. And sex isn’t pass/fail anymore, but about becoming erotic friends.

The night before New Year's Eve, while they were sitting down to dinner, he suffered a massive and fatal coronary. The two had lived and worked side by side for nearly 40 years.

Different people with different personalities express love in different ways. In fact, there are five very specific languages of love: Words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, quality time, and physical touch. Dr. Gary Chapman’s original best seller was first crafted with married couples in mind, but the love languages have proven themselves to be universal. The message of this audiobook is now tailored to meet the unique and real desires of single adults.

What to look for in dating a widower
Signs of a widower being emotionally ready to be dating and in a committed relationship with someone new. The last chapter confirmed some of my concerns and validated me as a person. I need to respect myself and speak up. He needs me to be direct.

A map guiding me through relationships as widower
Until reading Abel’s book, I was lost as to what I was feeling and what my feelings meant. I also didn’t consider nearly enough how my partner felt and what I needed to do for my partner. I now have hope I can find another true love.

All in all a good book
This is great and leaves me with things to consider. I’m entering into a new relationship (not my first since my wife passed) and this one feels in many way similar to when I met my LW and in someways different; more mature (I am older and a dad now). I am relishing the similarities and the differences and this book has really given me some things to consider that I had not previously considered. The only negative is something I’ve seen in other reviews. I appreciate the author telling us his own experiences but many of us can’t relate to wealthy politicians, actors, and musicians. We needed to hear more about the Everyman-widower.

Missing some vital information
If you take the entirety of this book , it does present valuable knowledge on what dating expectations you should be aware of . I did enjoy that he focused on celebrities such as Paul McCartney , Pearce Brosnan and Joe Biden .who became widowers themselves. But at the same time ,I felt somewhat detached since I can’t relate to their privileged lives . I am sure Paul McCartney has no difficulty dating a multitude of desirable women. I myself , don’t fit that category. The author failed to provide ways widowers can meet women . Since I am in my sixties, the dating scene has changed drastically . There was no mention on how to use dating sites, for example. What legal ramifications can ensue if you marry again? How to bring up the subject of prior STD’s such as herpes?I felt the book was catering to males in their mid thirties or forties. Although I did get some value , I don’t believe this was the “ultimate dating guide”.
