About this listen

It’s been thirty years since his father went missing. Now there’s a body, can he finally find out why?

When a man’s body is discovered in a Swiss glacier thirty years after he went missing, his son, Foster Treherne, hopes he’ll finally have closure on what happened to the father he never met. But then the autopsy reveals signs of a struggle, and what was assumed to be a tragic accident suddenly looks more sinister.

Foster tracks down his father’s old friends, but when he starts to ask questions it becomes clear that there’s something they don’t want to tell him. While some are evasive, others seem to wish the body had never been found. What exactly is their connection to each other, and why are they so reluctant to discuss the day his father disappeared? Who are they trying to protect?

If he wants to uncover what really happened, Foster must follow the trail of secrets and lies - no matter how devastating the consequences, and what they might reveal about his father. Because the truth can only stay buried for so long....

Character undergirds the artist and the others met here. Not an action story as others Wignall has written so well. But the intricate dance of personalities and circumstance is intriguing and memorable.

Reading Wignall is like watching Micalangelo sculpt a person emerging from stone.

I’ve read other of this author’s very good books. But this one would be at the bottom of the list.

Tedious and pointless

Well worded and thought out story. A hint of a mystery without being unbelievable. No foul language, which was great?

Good read!

An enjoyable listen, with a good ending. Not startling, but not that awkward/uncertain kind that ruins a solid book. I'll keep enjoying this author. He definitely knows his art. (pun intended)

it's a good book.

A body is found in a glacier and is identified as the father of renowned artist, Foster Treehurn, who’s been missing for decades. The death is ruled suicide but some missing buttons point towards foul play. Foster just wants answers, and a review of his father’s possessions lead to a group of friends, a secret society, and possible cover up. Foster vows to get to the truth…and when he does…it’s shocking! Started off slow but pace and intrigue picked up 1/2 way.

A decades long mystery…solved

An intriguing story that spans the decades of an orphan who's parents were well-known by others, but not him. An unexpected find of his lost father's corpse preserved in a glacier begins his search for the truth about his parents past and his future. It is a well written story that pulls you in quickly and for me, kept me reading with interest wondering along with the main character, how will this end. If you enjoy listening to Audible books, the performance by Mikael Naramore is excellent.

It's always hard to buy a book without any reviews. I took a chance on this one and enjoyed it. It took me two or three chapters to get used to the narrator. I found that when the other characters were introduced the narration all came together. The ending could have gone another chapter, but the main story was solved. I listened to it over two days and enjoyed it.

Glad I took a chance on it

I have read most, if not all, of Kevin Wignall's earlier novels and found them excellent -very well thought out and all were engrossing. This one starts off very well but it is long and drawn out and the climax is disappointing and unlikely to say the least.

Disappointing!

Foster Treherne, who never knew his parents, begins to learn about them after his father’s body is found in a glacier. A couple of items noticed during the autopsy start Foster on a quest to learn more about his father. As a successful artist, Treherne has sufficient funds to visit his father’s old friends in the US and Europe to learn whether his father had been murdered.

Enjoyable book
