An unconventional woman and a man shrouded in mystery walk a tightrope of desire as they race against a killer to find a top secret invention before it’s too late.

Former trapeze artist Amalie Vaughn moved to Burning Cove to reinvent herself, but things are not going well. After spending her entire inheritance on a mansion with the intention of turning it into a bed-and-breakfast, she learns too late that the villa is said to be cursed. When the first guest, Dr. Norman Pickwell, is murdered by his robot invention during a sold-out demonstration, rumors circulate that the curse is real.

In the chaotic aftermath of the spectacle, Amalie watches as a stranger from the audience disappears behind the curtain. When Matthias Jones reappears, he is slipping a gun into a concealed holster. It looks like the gossip that is swirling around him is true - Matthias evidently does have connections to the criminal underworld.

Matthias is on the trail of a groundbreaking prototype cipher machine. He suspects that Pickwell stole the device and planned to sell it. But now Pickwell is dead and the machine has vanished. When Matthias’s investigation leads him to Amalie’s front door, the attraction between them is intense, but she knows it is also dangerous. Amalie and Matthias must decide if they can trust each other and the passion that binds them, because time is running out.

Amalie Vaughn defied a murderer once. As a former trapeze artist, Amalie is used to taking chances. The inn she and her aunt open at Burning Cove seems like less of a risk that most she’s taken but it soon becomes her biggest risk of all.

A killer robot, a handsome stranger and a murderer’s accomplice all show up in Burning Cove, Amalie and Matthias Jones join forces to stop a traitor.

This romantic suspense has it all, intrigue, adventure, romance, death defying acts and best of all, a happy ending, for some at least.

I can’t tell you how much I love Amanda Quick. Read this story and fall in love, I did.

Not so good narratives on male voices. Especially the hero. It sounds like a voice coming through a metal fan.

Good story

Another fun adventure from one of my go-to authors, but wow! Holy over-use of the word "evidently," Batman!

I suppose I didn't really notice when I was reading a print copy of the book, or at least I was able to skip over the annoyingly over-used vocabulary, but it really stood out in the audio format. It really pulled my focus from an otherwise good story.

Good story that would have greatly benefited from a better editor (one armed with a thesaurus)

Story was pretty good! Surprised with the sprinkling of “F bombs” in the dialogue.

Good character development and how the tied into each other.

Narration was well done!

First, this is a series & makes more sense if you read/listen to the books in order. Great audio performance & not too much yelling when I have my headphones on. Great story, characters & lots of twists & turns. We'll done.

Another Great Quick Audiobook

Was thrilled to listen to another burning cove series book, which brings back the Sylvester Jones ancestry from the past lineage to the 1930's !

Loved all her previous books that dealt with the Sylvester Jones lineage and the entire Arcane Series etc...

This story has the mystery, the fear and romantic suspense with muder, a twisted invention and of course...a talented investigator named
Mr. M. S. Jones.
I'll let you read the book for more...

Audible Narration was done very well....

I would recommend this book, was an enjoyable read\listen!

Enjoyed the story. In fact, I’ve listened to it twice. It was fun seeing a member of the Jones family in this story. Looking forward to the next in the series.

I am really beginning to enjoy this series. I love that the setting remains the same but the major characters change, receiving support and backup from the previous protagonist . This time it's Emily and Matthias, a former high wire flyer and an investigator in the guise of a member of the mob. Emily gets caught up in the search for a missing enigma machine when the person who stole it and is trying to sell it, books rooms at her newly opened hotel/inn. He proceeds to get himself shoot to death on stage in front of a multitude of witnesses by a robot he is hawking. At first Emily was a bit irritating to me, but she soon grew on me. The story moves at a good pace and does capture and hold your attention. Looking forward to seeing who next we'll meet in Burning Cove.
