About this listen

Gil Truman has eyes only for the beautiful Tilly - until he is forced to marry plain, sickly Rose Davenport to reclaim the lands his father foolishly gambled away. After a disastrous wedding night tainted with his bitterness, he deposits Rose at his remote, Northumbrian estate, soothing his guilt with the thought that she need never lay eyes on him again.

Five years after the mortifying wedding night that destroyed all her romantic fantasies, Rose is fed up with hearing second - and third - hand reports of Gil's philandering ways. She is no longer the shy, homely girl he left behind, but a strong, confident woman who knows how to run an estate. And knows what she wants - her husband, back in their marriage bed.

Gil doesn't recognize the bold, flirtatious woman he meets at a ball, with or without her mask. Yet he is bewitched and besotted, and their night together is the most passionate he has ever known. But when he confesses his sins to the beautiful stranger, the truth rips open the old wounds of their blighted history. Threatening any hope of a future together.

Contains mature themes.

Missing this one would be unforgivable.

Ok, it was occasionally a tiny bitty bit slow. And once or twice I didn’t love love love the narrative. But all in all a VERY good book! A very good narrative and a excellent, totally hot, steaminess.

Narrator - No!

The narrator made this impossible to enjoy. Thank goodness I have the kindle version.
Don't bother purchasing.

Great story, not my favorite narrator.

I really loved the story. It was about redemption and love and forgiveness.

But the narrator... once I was able to get past the weird cadence of her reading, which I did somehow get pulled into her weird way of story telling, I really enjoyed her voices. She did great voices, for everyone except Gil. He sounded so dull and old and boring. I really think she did him a disservice.

Such romanticism and couldn’t stop listening

I love a historical romance now and then and this fits my mood perfectly. It has the charm of an innocent young girl who was married to an Earl who did not want to be married...she grew strong, stood up for herself and was more forgiving in every way....simply beautifully written

Enjoyed it!!

This is my first by this author and I will be looking for more! The narrator was not as bad as some of the negative reviews. Other than her male voice she was very easy to know that she was playing different characters. Only one of the male voices she was portraying was bad. Definitely worth a credit!!!

An Excellent book

Would you consider the audio edition of Unforgivable to be better than the print version?

I think this book would be great in any format. It is very much like a Mary Balaug novel. It has an h/h that don't just fall into bed/love because both are beautiful. They have a very rough start to their relationship and then grow together. You understand why the fall in love and feel the complexity of those emotions.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really liked Rose. She was smart and did not make a lot of mistakes or went against her intelligence just to make the plot move in a certain way ( like so many authors that write smart women that keep doing stupid things). Rose was authentic to her character and behaved with logic, strength and passion.

Which character – as performed by Lucy Rayner – was your favorite?

The narrator did a great job with the different characters. I could hear when characters changed, because she had a subtle difference for every one. I think she did a very good djob.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I could feel the anguish of the characters and their pain. It was then so wonderful to feel them falling in love and coming to appreciate each other. This is what romance should be...but lately is not . This book doesn't depend on sex scenes to convey the emotions. it is complex, from them hating each other to friendship to love. The character development was fantastic! And the sex scenes are integrated so they have meaning and move the story forward.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to read more from this author. She has a great feel for both the anxiety, insecurity and flaws found in both a male and female character, so the development is exciting to read. I wish there were more books available from her, but hopefully in the future. I'll be looking for more like this one.

Not what I was expecting

The story is good, but is very melodramatic.

I was expecting a light hearted romantic comedy, and while there were moments it is not a comedy.

The characters are real, flawed and relatable. The plotline flows beautifully with no jarring plot holes.

Would I listen to it again? Yes but not for awhile

The one complaint I have is that there is no epilogue, while it is a happy ending, it is a bit unsatisfying that we don't get to see their life after they get together at the very end.

OK Story Different

The narrator was the worst I have ever listen to. Having a fast speed on my player was the only reason I was able to finish this book. The story was good for me, but L. Rayner needs to listen to herself and see if she can get through this book. Come on Lucy, you got to do better or give up the job, it is not for you.

The plot

I liked the plot didn’t have a problem with the narrator. I found myself getting so angry about how Rose was portrayed. A different time period but not so far back in England that she’s her husband’s actual property and she absorbs the blame for everything. There’s not a woman on earth that wouldn’t have held him accountable for his actions she just lays down like a mat. Disturbing
