About this listen

Without so much as a warning, humanity in its entirety was suddenly moved to another dimension. Every person, without exception.

But this new world, with all its opportunities and gifts of wondrous abilities, was a stadium. A deadly arena of an unimaginable scale. And humanity was to be its latest gladiators. Every man, woman, and child was given a weapon and ordered to fight. Stuck in this dimension without a way out, only two options existed for the would-be hunters: Fight with monsters to complete the many trials ahead, or perish.

Faced with hordes of powerful monsters, thrown into battle with complete strangers at random, the unfair game of survival began. And from the very beginning, billions of lives were extinguished in mere moments. But even within this abyss of despair was a small ray of hope: If even one person were to complete every raid, then humanity would be redeemed and restored back to its former glory.

No save points, no revives, no retries. Everyone had just one life to make their way through the gauntlet of raids prepared to test their mettle. Within this marathon of death, one man becomes aware of an exception to the rules of the game.

Well written, plot that flows…predictably downhill morally speaking. I don’t regret using my credit but I won’t be using another on this series. It is without doubt a soap opera trolling for audible credit breaking up a story into 8-10 hours segments and calling it a “book”. It probably does have an end planned since it is translated from, my guess would be, Russian (but no guarantees.) There is no rhyme or reason for the ending to happen where it does other than leave a nasty residue on your mind knowing the choices the MC makes the final few minutes after the audio book reaches 10 hours…the witching hour of audio credits evidently.

Breaking bad in the making

I have got to say that this book was really good. at first I was skeptical about it but with all the loot and fighting it is definitely worth it.

great book !

Someone else reviewed this and described it as iterative and formulaic. Same sequence of events over and over. No real character development or back story, but still interesting. Would like some more character depth and some background as to why everyone is in this situation, which hopefully would be developed and revealed in subsequent titles.

Kind of basic, but not bad.

The story is mostly dungeon climbing with new loot and stats. It’s quite repetitive. There are aspects in the story that frustrate me. The fact that the black market is only for “NPC’s” is just a miss opportunity for story in my opinion. With all that being said, I enjoyed it. Travis is my favorite narrator hand down. If your looking for a book to listen to while waiting for a release, like I did, I’d recommend this one.

Repetitive, but very good.

I loved it, looking forward to more from this author/series. It’s not a perfect piece, but well worth the time, if you’re into monster slaying ;)

Like Dark Souls in a book

So the main character starts off of the book dying and gets reborn enforce back into the situation he was in previously. People are getting abducted and told everybody on earth will be killed if they do not complete all 100 chapters. They are not all competing in one chapter each chapter contains five people and you have to conquer the chapter to get points to level up. So the main story is the main character using exploits and past knowledge to become one of the most powerful people in the book and try to create his own team to take down the last chapter. She meets a couple people along the way in some from his past life. He also learns new concepts and new items that he can use to better his chances to save the world. He also has to contend with other players wanting to kill other contestants for their points to get better stats.
It’s a good book but if you don’t like repetitiveness you might not like this one

Excellent story and narrated expertly. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Was looking through the negative reviews out of curiosity and realized it's because they clearly never listened passed the first chapter. A bit odd. Gotta watch out for those.

Great

I like this book. it has a perfect mix of hard fights, easy fights, exploration, and downtime that managed to get past the glazing over that generally happens to my kind during a LitRPG fight scene.

Still, this book series is really all about the fight scenes, even if there are simple but effective characters. If it's something deeper you're looking for, you won't find it here.

Simple but Effective
