About this listen

From the internationally acclaimed author of Feeding the Hungry Heart, Breaking Free From Compulsive Eating, and Why Weight? comes a wholly original look at the profound connections between the way we eat and the way we love.

When Food Is Love examines the motivations behind bingeing and obsessive dieting, and explains how such compulsive behavior sabotages intimate relationships. With compassion and penetrating wisdom, Geneen Roth reveals how to break destructive emotional patterns and learn to satisfy all the hungers, physical and emotional - that make us human.

Insightful to any repetitive, impulsive behavior

I’m not a compulsive eater, but read this because a friend was reading it. It’s a short read and very insightful to any other repetitive, impulsive behavior. I’d definitely read it again.

Great read...

When food is love the love is outside of us and we have no role or input or expectation of how it works, impacts us or how to respond. we are and can be in control in a healing caring way with both food and with love.

A Book That Makes You Reflect

I listened to this audiobook and enjoyed it. it made me pause and reflect on my earlier life as a kid to uncover what may cause me to be compulsive with food at times. i am not a compulsive eater as the author and reader may have been but there definitely were some things discussed I felt were important words to hear- the need for self love to be able to love more intimately. the author brought her personal life experiences and challenges to the story and shared how she became "alive" again and able to be more productive, social and intimate because of it. Good book, I'd recommend for anyone who struggles with food/dieting. The author reading, was a little monotone... might have been a better audio book if the voice-over was a bit more engaging.

Truly priceless insight, better with every page.

Possibly the best book I've ever seen on this topic. Written with piercing honesty, it is instructive, healing, and truly valuable. Fifteen years of therapy presented in its essence through one book.

very thought-provoking

The connection she makes between compulsive eating & the hurt that can be soothed for a time, but not cured, is very striking. It is intriguing because it would explain why food addicts and others tend to switch from one addicton to another.

Great book focusing on emotions

More on emotions than food and diets, just what I needed to hear. Emotional eating (for me) is never about the food. This short and sweet book helped me get centered, almost like a meditation. I’ll listen to it again, many times I’m sure.

Worthwhile but

Good ideas but very focused on intimate relationships. Good examples from her life but only small bits seemed relevant for my life.

Love the angle

This was such a refreshing angle on binge eating people need to realize it not because we are fat and lazy...we have issues and they can't be ignored they need to be dealt with
