About this listen

Wicked banter, kitchen witches, and hot men in kilts make this friends-to-lovers modern day Scottish fairytale a romping good time.

I draw the line at serving people grasshoppers for dinner. As luck would have it, on the same day I quit my job as head chef at Suzette’s, a fine-dining restaurant in Boston, I was offered an opportunity to open a restaurant at a castle in Scotland. But now that I’m here in Loren Brae, I’m not so sure this city girl can hack it.

The nights are too quiet–with no horns honking or insults being hurled–and everyone knows my business. And on the first day of my new life? I meet the hottest man I’d ever seen before. Munroe Curaigh. Owner of Common Gin, a dedicated nerd, innately shy, with the biggest golden retriever energy of any man I’d ever met.

He immediately appoints himself my protector and I’d be annoyed if his kisses weren’t so wickedly hot. Still waters run deep, and all that. Speaking of still waters…it appears that Loch Mirren is haunted by murderous Kelpies and the people of Loren Brae need my help.

That’s right. It turns out that I’m descended from a long line of Kitchen Witches and Loren Brae needs me, Lia, a chef from Boston, to help save them from an ancient curse. So what’s a girl to do?

It’s time to sharpen my kitchen knife, pull out my recipe book of spells, and get to work–or this tiny village in Scotland that I’m quickly falling in love with will be in danger. That is, if I can come up for air from Munroe’s decadent kisses.

Love it

Such a fun series. Enchanting story with great characters. Will Watt is an amazing narrator, one of my favorites. Watt has a canny way of making the characters uniquely interesting.

Absolutely Amazing!!!

I just love thus authors works. The way the characters come to life and the incredible details in the story is like I was there experiencing it. I listened to book 1 & 2 back to back and I can’t wait for the third.

Warms my heart

So far I have absolutely adored everything I have read by Tricia O’Malley. I care about the well-being of the characters and worlds she has created. This is the sign of the best stories: those that evoke real emotions and investment in the narrative. Being of Celt heritage, and a member of a recognized Scottish Clan by marriage, I absolutely love experiencing the culture vicariously through characters I love. While we are American by birth, my heart lies far away, and these stories lift my heart!

I wasn't sure, but glad I took the chance

I loved the Mystic Cove series. I've listened and read them more times than I can count, but I wasn't so sure about this series. Book 1 was good, but I wasn't sure it could hold. It could easily turn into something campy and expected. However, I was pleasantly surprised the wit, banter and everything I'd come to love of the Mystic Cove series was in this series as well. As always Amy Langdon's performance is beyond exceptional. The Highland Coo parts had me in tears laughing. Great team writer and narrator and I'm invested. Toss in a Broonie and I'm sold.

Enjoyable but very similar to Book 1

I read the 2nd book right after book 1 and it appeared to be very similar in words and described actions. was a little disappointed but love this author.

Sexy, fun and flirty Scottish romance with magic!

This is a fun, sexy and flirty series of books with a healthy dose of magic, myth and endearing creatures. The books have Americans moving to Scotland and getting involved in the secret society that is being rebuilt to guard a secret that could change to world. Each new entry into the society must be invited in and must pass 3 trials to prove themselves. They each bring a different skill to the mix and share in the magic. This all makes the plot fun, unique and intriguing. The 2 narrators in the Audible version have wonderful accents and enhance the reading experience. In this book, there is a theme of gourmet dining and it will make you hungry as the interesting dishes are being created and the chef from Boston becomes a true Scottish kitchen witch. Some new, lively mythical creatures are also introduced into the haunted castle setting in the Highlands. There are some truly nasty characters that you will love to hate too, and a good ending. Can't wait for the next book.

Absolutely Outstanding (of course)

Tricia O'Malley writes so well that it would be difficult to find a book written by her that I have been able to stop reading/listening to until the end. This love story stands up to her reputation.
The female narrator took me a few minutes to acclimate (she should be a singer) but that did not take long.
I surprised myself by laughing and several times having to go back in the paragraph to be sure I hadn't missed anything.
Tricia's sex scenes are written well and not over the top. If you want trash, you will not be finding it here.
The book is so entertaining I think it is time for me to stop and listen again, making errands so much easier.
Thank you, Tricia

Too much of the same issue over and over

First I love this book BUT come on!! The same silly issue over and over, the head games, is just so hard to take!! I have to believe that there can be more to write about, to make a fun and interesting story, than a “woman” so in her head over things so trivial. Thank goodness for fast forward to get through the repetitiveness and the “I am strong, I am crazy woman” issues.
