About this listen

From bestselling author Franklin Horton comes this new installment in his Borrowed World–Locker Nine–Mad Mick universe.

Willie grew up outside of Damascus, Virginia, and life was never easy for her. She’s a hard-as-nails single mom who struggles to make ends meet with little support and few opportunities. She’s also the community “rescue mom”, taking in young people with no other place to go. All this while dodging an ex-boyfriend turned stalker who also happens to be a cop.

Willie only made it to adulthood by being resilient. That toughness, combined with a series of odd jobs and side hustles, helps keep her unorthodox family afloat. All those qualities will be tested when a terror attack leaves the nation in an indefinite blackout, and life suddenly becomes even harder. On top of it, the conflict between Willie and her ex-boyfriend is escalating and this time neither of them is willing to back down.

Great characters

I loved the strong female lead character and the craftiness of her will and her strong morals.

Narrator change

I understand the use of a female narrator bc its from a female narrative but maybe add the original narrator for the guy parts. something different, it can be a bit hard to listen at times

You know when you see someone who makes the difficult look easy? Franklin Horton make’s writing hit series look easy. I am so looking forward to the next set of books in this new series. I love Kevin Piece but Shannon McManus does a super star job in narrating this book which is a delight. 5 stars in all aspects - it’s a must in your audible library!!!

give us back the og narrator!!!!

Decent story, good addition to the world, the author has established. Dear god please change the hey raider, when she voices, the teenagers, she sounds so whiny and its sooooo annoying and she has the weirdest most ANNOYING inflection in her voice and hearing her try to do a white trash Southern voice is like fingers and a chalkboard, it's like pouring grease down a drain. it's just BAD. get the old voice actor that did ALL the rest of the seroes he even narrated the locker nine series and that was spectacular! yeah, I just had a hard time getting into it completely because of the voice actor...

Defeated Creek review

Another great book by Franklin Horton. I have enjoyed many of the other series he’s written. While Kevin Pierce does an excellent job narrating Franklin’s books. I enjoyed Shannon McManus as the narrator for this book. I think she was a great choice. I hope she will be the narrator as the series continues.

thank you Franklin Horton

the prefect tie in to the Locker 9 books, I enjoyed the change to a female hero ,the character Willie is actually a relatable person, tough no nonsense driven . So looking forward for future stories the narrator was an excellent choice. I enjoyed listening to her bringing life to this saga.

Good start to the series.

It was a little slow and uninteresting in the beginning, but halfway through things started to come together and it kept me wanting more.
