About this listen

Following her explosive debut thriller Falling and its harrowing follow-up Drowning, #1 internationally bestselling author T.J. Newman is back with Worst Case Scenario.

When a pilot suffers a heart attack at 35,000 feet, a commercial airliner filled with passengers crashes into a nuclear power plant in the small town of Waketa, Minnesota, which becomes ground zero for a catastrophic national crisis with global implications.

The International Nuclear Event Scale tracks nuclear disasters. It has seven levels. Level 7 is a Major Accident, with only two on record: Fukushima and Chernobyl. There has never been a Level 8. Until now.

In this heart-stopping thriller, ordinary people—power plant employees, firefighters, teachers, families, neighbors, and friends—are thrust into an extraordinary situation as they face the ultimate test of their lives. It will take the combined courage, ingenuity, and determination of a brave few to save not only their community and loved ones, but the fate of humanity at large.

So Good

Whenever I read a TJ Newman book, I find myself asking, “Why was she ever a flight attendant?” Her writing is gripping and her storytelling is top notch. Do not hesitate to read this and her other books. Amazing. Quickly becoming a favorite author of mine.

Do you have my CD's?

I worked in the nuclear field for several years and when that jargon started I had to stop at chapter 4 and order a copy for my ex that still works in that field!
My only complaint is there should be a breath taken for a one second pause between scenes. I had to backup a few times thinking I'd accidentally skipped to the next chapter.

How A Narrator Can Kill An Amazing Book

NUCLEAR is pronounced new-clear. After the 20th or 30th time hearing the narrator pronounce it as new-cue-lar, I almost turned it off and demanded a refund from audible.

That said, the story is excellent. The narration is not good.

Catastrophe Laden Tale

Predictable story but engaging. Frankly too many, seemingly never ending obstacles for the characters to overcome. So going for poignant. The narration for the first few chapters was delivered in a staccato way which was a bit distracting. Although the narrator is an accomplished actor, it took too many chapters in before the delivery seemed less “acted” and more presentation of the story. However I did finish the book and enjoyed the results.

Gut wrenching

Uh well this was a rollercoaster of emotions!! By far the BEST TJ Newman book I’ve read. I was crying and hope and crying some more. It was action packed straight from the jump. You got to see all the different scenario happening all at once from different POVs. This book gutted me and put me back together.

My official ranking would
1. Worst Case Scenario
2. Drowning
3. Falling

Loved the narrator

This was overrated by so many, in my opinion. It's good but there's so much of the pondering on life and preciousness snd sadness that it takes away from the action. Maybe it's because of working in a hospital and disasters. And I think the dwelling on the lives sort of triggered me with working through covid in another state, driving down the road that was blocked off and no one on it. having to show ID to cross state line. I really wish all the sad thoughts wouldn't have been added. It was overdone. The part I hated and almost gave a 3 star is where they would've been using a radio ,like emergency personel and also plant workers. in the audiobook, they read it like it was a radio. so you would hear a radio come in with people talking and it took away from the book. It would've been better if reading I think.

I got the audiobook because I absolutely love that narrator. He was my favorite on Scandal and has a great voice. I was so happy to see he did narration. He doesn't disappoint.

So-so

The narrator kept mispronouncing “nuclear” and that drove me nuts. The story was ok, not 5 stars
