About this listen

Liam loves his life as a linguist and trader on the Rownt homeworld, but he has ignored his heart and sexual needs for years. After escaping the horrors of war, he wants a boring life. He won't risk letting anyone come too close because he won't risk letting anyone see his deeply submissive nature. For him, submission comes with pain. Life burned that lesson into his soul from a young age.

This fear keeps him from noticing that the Rownt trader Ondry cares for him. Ondry may not understand humans, but he recognizes a wounded soul, and his need to protect Liam is quickly outpacing his common sense. They may have laws, culture, and incompatible genitalia in their way, but Ondry knows that he can find a way to overcome all that if he can just overcome the ghosts of Liam's past. Only then can he take possession of a man he has grown to respect.

Contains mature themes.

Listened to this one this time around. I love this book. I love this series. I love this author. I love this narrator. The creativity around an entire species of alien, planet, customs, culture is astonishing. It is so cool that this author is able to imagine a world so different to our own but be able to put humans in it. I love scifi and this author does it amazingly.

Love everything about this

Autistic giant turtle people aren't sexy, right? There is something deeply weird about this story but the world building keeps me hooked. I'm on book three at this point.

This is so weird but I can't stop listening

The truest form of an alien encounter book, including all of the language and cultural fumbles you would expect from encountering a different species, while still being a sweet story with wonderful characters. I enjoyed the extras at the end that till parts of the book from different perspectives. A satisfying start to a series.

A very enjoyable beginning.

I had hoped that the audiobook would be as good as the book it self is and it's even better.

It's review time

Narrator score🎧 ; John was absolutely brilliant.... I love his work, and his performance.... the voices he gave the grandmothers was extraordinary..... and the main characters got very very good voices as well. I adored it.

Level of steam🔥: it's takes time until they will have any physical encounters.... but, when they do.... it will be very special and very hot and very very steamy I loved it.

Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: this book is not a sad book at all..... it's a very special, complex and resilient story.... but it's not the sad story.... it's even hilarious in a lot of moments because of miscommunications that makes the story brilliant.

The book itself📖: so I didn't read the blurb and just dove in.... and I was absolutely enamored with the story !!!!
it's not your usual alien story(if an alian story can be called usual) it was very very real. . . you could feel the miscommunication between the two species as alian and humans....
Liam was a very interesting character. I adored he's resilient personality .... and he's.... we will call it silence demeanor and though he was very subdued... he was a very resilient character and I adored it.
But what made the story very special, in my opinion. was that author spoke about very delicate subjects with a very outsider point of view....( and I will explain) we are humans and we can't see our faults because we understand only Humanity ....we understand the words bad and good and wrong and right...
but what that author did was to take an outsider that looks at Humanity as something Alian.... and it was absolutely brilliant I loved the little nuances and sentences ....that will make you giggle like a 5 years old because the book was that good ..... the more severe moments in the story are explained in a strange point of view...... everything was very well written.
P.s in the end if the story you have a short bonus story that you need to listen to.... to understand the even more little nuances and I think you will love it as much as I did.

absolutely special

I really enjoyed this book. Even though it's an outer space alien story it still had a very relatable human aspect to it. The courting process of the characters was fantastically done and there were a couple plot points I wasn't sure how the author would make work but, in the end turned out great. I really enjoyed seeing the progression of the characters and the bonus story at the end was SO GOOD. I can't wait for the next book and John Solo really did a great job with voicing each of them and the alien language.

Great interspecies romance!

I’m thrilled that Lyn Gala’s extraordinary Claimings series is being offered in audio! Brought to life by the wonderfully expressive John Solo, the first novel, Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts, sets the stage for this stunning series. And I’m just giving you fair warning: Plan on committing to all four audiobooks because once you let Ondry and Liam into your heart you’ll never get enough!

A linguistics specialist in Earth’s military, Liam has held the position of trader on the planet Prarownt for five years. While he’s a decent trader, Liam’s true value lies in his ability to collect details of the culture, customs, and language of the Rownt, the native beings of the planet. Most of what he learns is through his relationship with Ondry, the Rownt’s finest trader, and the two have cultivated a tentative friendship.

Identified by his need to please and serve others, Liam is recognized as a Palteia by the Rownt. Viewed as precious and held in the highest esteem, Patleia are to be protected and cherished for the treasures they are. When a military change of command threatens Liam’s position on Prarownt, Ondry steps in to claim Liam as his own Palteia.

After years of abuse and being repeatedly exploited, it breaks my heart to see Liam’s relief at Ondry’s care. As he begins to understand the level of respect and honor a Palteia commands, his walls come down and he becomes a different person. There’s a compelling dynamic between Ondry and Liam right from the start, and once Ondry claims Liam, the added dimensions of their D/s connection is irresistible.

Between the tongue twisting Rownt language, the wide array of unusual characters, and the subtle nuances of all the relationships, Mr. Solo’s interpretation lives up to everything I could have hoped for.

As a huge science fiction fan, I have to gush a bit about Lyn Gala’s skill at building this incredible world. She explores the Rownt’s society, culture, and customs and includes imaginative details about their physical characteristics and the intricacies of their language. It’s all seamlessly incorporated over the course of this series, so by the end of the fourth Claimings novel I think I know every aspect of this world as well as I do my own.

It takes a special narrator to bring this extraordinary collection to life, and I’m so glad the honor goes to John Solo. Between the tongue twisting Rownt language, the wide array of unusual characters, and the subtle nuances of all the relationships, Mr. Solo’s interpretation lives up to everything I could have hoped for.

As Lyn Gala mentions in her author’s note, Ondry is modeled on her ideal of the perfect dom. Gaining his enjoyment by watching his Palteia lost in pleasure, Ondry’s exploration of Liam’s body and his responses is extremely erotic. Throughout the series, as their intimacy grows, the connection between Liam and Ondry is incredibly moving. Fans of romance and science fiction, I highly recommend this wonderful love story, especially now that the Claimings series is available in audiobook!

Extraordinary! John Solo's performance is Amazing!
