About this listen

Can a notorious rake seduce the ice mistress?

Married to the unfaithful Earl of Lowry and scorned by her in-laws for not producing an heir for the earldom, Gertrude "Gertie" Farrington takes out her frustrations in the masked underground world of Madame Botreaux's Cavern of Pleasures. Concealing her identity there as "Lady Athena", Gertie is a domineering mistress with a peculiar propensity: She never allows a submissive to bring her to climax.

Back from years of exile after a scandalous duel, Lord Phineas Barclay, a notorious rake and seducer of women, becomes instantly intrigued by the Lady Athena on a visit to the Cavern of Pleasures. He poses as a submissive with the intention of seducing the icy mistress and uncovering her true identity.

As the Countess of Lowry, Gertie wants nothing to do with Phineas Barclay -- a debaucher at best, and a murderer at worst. So why does she find herself hot and flustered in his presence?

Phineas Barclay finds himself strangely drawn to the Countess, but every step forward with her seems to be followed by a step backward with the Lady Athena. Which woman will he choose to conquer?

Recommended but not required prequel: Lord Barclay's Seduction.

I enjoyed the story all though it was hard to get past the build up of the Characters and all the names. Once that was establishes the story was great. The reader had a great voice for the story but it sometimes lulled me to sleep and I had to back up to catch up to where I was.

Overall it was a fun “read”

Hard to follow at first. But worth it in the end!

This is a story about Gertie who is married to Alexander. It is a loveless marriage. Her sister in-law & mother in-law also view her with scorn. Gertie is a dominatrix in secret. She meets Alexander’s cousin. The 2 families do not socialize nor do they have any regard for each other. Gertie becomes Phineas’ favorite dominatrix. Both Gertie & Phineas do not recognize each other but become fascinated with each other. The story goes into how their relationship evolves. I sat on the edge of my seat wondering what each chapter would bring. It is a captivating story. Em Brown is a wonderful story teller she is one of my favorites. Please do yourself a favorite and take a journey with Gertie & Phineas. You will not be disappointed.

A hit

Em Brown does a wonderful job of narrating her own work in Conquering the Countess. This is book is hard for me to review and not include a spoiler so I'll proceed with caution...and no spoiler. If Victorian Era erotic romance is something you know you enjoy or think you might find appealing this is a great read. If steamy sex with a side of kink isn't your reading genre then you might want to head to another book. I think this would rate as my favorite Em Brown book thus far.

Deliciously decadent, and very hot with a good story in between. The narrator does a good job bring the characters to life. Worth it.
