The Next Logical Step

I enjoyed this story as we pick up from where the last book left off. This book begins the last part of Wu Ying's exile as he comes full circle and finds an old friend and eventual return to his sect.

Travis Baldree adds to the enjoyement of reading the book and enhances the experience. Great job as usual.

But I do have some quibbles about the story... or perhaps how it was told. Tao Wong tells a great story and has always had a few quirks in his writing style. This time, the laast several chapters were written to be confusing... sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. While I knew what happened by the end, I had to re-read it three times to actually understand what had happened. And I still didn't feel I understood *why* some of it had happened.

There is a bonus epilogue available for print readers that helps give some insights--thanks to my sister for reading it aloud to me over the phone so now I know what readers of the print version know! This isn't the first time we audiobook readers got less than the print readers because other books have had bonus epilogues, too, and we didn't get access to those either. I'm not sure why we have to miss out on content, but I'm hoping that is rectified in the future!

Consistent

This series has been an example of what I look for in a Cultivation world. It's not like it's mind-blowing content-wise. Rather, it is simply consistently well written and reasonably consistent in attitude, character growth, and progression.
I'm not saying it doesn't do some fun things I haven't seen. Moreso, those moments are just overshadowed by how thoroughly it keeps me generally engaged with what's happening by nature of flow.
Fun series, do recommend.
(Always love to hear Travis)

More of the same.

Great performance but the story is stale and getting boring. pretty much nothing happened along the story except for more fights and then more fights and then more fights intermixed with some witty conversation and odd philosophies.

hell, yeah

I absolutely loved it. I really want this series to continue, but the ending of this book felt kind of like a soft ending of a series. I hope I am wrong, though.

Not my favorite, but looking forward to the next

Fine continuation of the series, definitely buy if you've been a fan of the rest. No major issues, just found this one to be a bit less interesting than the last few. *Vague spoilers to follow...…........….....................

The first half of the story was good, interesting moments and new experiences, solid character development. Running into an old friend was great too. The second half was a bit of a slog for me, being basically a 5+ hour long battle. Hopefully it forms a seminal moment for future books. The betrayal at the end was also very obvious (though doubt it was intended to be a real surprise) and felt weak on rational. I appreciate the romance addition and letting him accrue a few more attachments to the world around him, but it did feel slightly rushed.

These are small critiques overall, still a great series. The epilogue and set up makes me excited for the next one.
