About this listen

The story of Dr. Mary T. Newport's discovery and use of medium-chain fatty acids, which act like alternative fuel in the Alzheimer's brain, to aid her beloved husband, Steve, created such a stir when the first edition was published in 2011 that a second edition was needed to reflect the most recent developments.

Here Dr. Newport, a neonatal practitioner, brings the story of Steve's progress up to date and details the most recent research on a variety of topics, including possible causes of Alzheimer's and how infection, inflammation, and genetic makeup may affect an individual's response to fatty acid therapy. She also covers the latest clinical trials aimed at removing beta-amyloid that accumulates in the Alzheimer's brain.

It works!

I found this book after seeing Dr Mary Newport in a TedTalk on YouTube. After that, I search out all the videos on her I could find. She is brilliant! Big pharma wants to push drugs and not look into natural food substances because there is no money in that! 2 people I told about this had results with in days of starting the coconut oil. I am a nurse and I will continue to read all the books Dr Newport has written. Thank you Dr Newport!!! You have changed many lives!!!

Agreed - Alzheimers needs more research.

Good book in which author pushes for more research on Alzheimers disease treatment and prevention. This should include research on coconut oil. Funding will need government funding for the research since a cheap already available product is not likely to be pursued by pharmaceutical companies looking for a large profit. It is interesting to note that not too long ago, coconut oil was taken out of many products to prevent heart problems due to being a highly saturated fat. Maybe we need some.
The narration was good up but sometimes she seemed bored especially pronouncing long chemical names. But those names are important and the narrator did take the time to properly pronounce them.
Its nice to see that this doctor took the time to inform us that this is not a proven cure or prevention while it seems to help some people.
