Fans of guided imagery are likely to rate this 5/5

You’re missing out if you don’t get the audiobook. Expect your blood pressure to improve while listening. The author is a psychotherapist specializing in anxiety. This is not an audiobook to listen to when you are tired unless you are trying to fall asleep. This is not because the book is boring, but because the author (who is also the reader) has a very soothing voice and relaxing cadence when she speaks (which are, no doubt, very helpful traits for a psychotherapist).

The book opens with the standard obligatory biology overview, then goes into seven categories of practices/techniques/hacks that readers can use to manage and ultimately decrease their anxiety. Strategies include ways to modulate the physical responses to stress, increasing self-awareness, and conscious reframing/reinterpretation of anxiety triggers (often, one person's source of anxiety is another's source of excitement or enjoyment).

Breathing, guided mental imagery, acupressure, and self-affirmation all figure prominently (philosophically, I think the self-affirmation is excessive, but I can see the appeal). Based on the techniques employed, I think average female readers are likely to get more benefit from this book than average male readers. As a man with no anxiety disorders that I am aware of, most of the tools provided were either unhelpful or naturally distasteful to the point that I would have to experience extremely severe chronic anxiety before I would be willing to attempt them. As stated in the headline, fans of guided imagery meditation are likely to love this book, but those people who find meditation unpleasant or counterproductive may find this off-putting, though they may find benefits in some of the other components such as acupressure tutorials.
