Eye Opening!

I never thought their will be such perfect audio book on this topic! Wow! I am amazed at how generously author has taken a dig at the human nature to please people. The author describes the injustice we do with ourselves by signing up for things that are not according to us and we change our perspective just to please people. I learned that we should stick to our opinion rather than saying yes to what perosn is saying and that there's no harm in saying a 'No'. A great read on a much practiced social activity!

Fantastic Book!

As someone who has struggled with being a people pleaser, this audiobook was precisely what I needed! The chapters were laid out perfectly and easy to follow. The author had some fantastic recommendations. The narration was excellent! Straightforward and concise and easy to listen to. Felt like you were chatting with a friend. I would recommend this book to anyone who struggles with being a people pleaser.

A nice book to read

I love how the book relates or matches well with the title.The author did an amazing job in politely pointing out the areas where everyone seems to be a victim or guilty in setting out boundaries in our lives. Knowing myself explanations by the author resonated with me and I felt like the book was written all about me.It is full of learnings.

A definite confidence builder

I thought that I was a “don’t take crap from anyone” person but after listening to the audiobook, I understand that I still do things for other’s attention. Also, there is the right and wrong attitude to have to not try to please everyone. The author does a great job showing ways to humble yourself. Definitely a great listen.

Very eye opening!

This book is for you if you have always looked for validation from others. So much valuable insight and it shares the truth about why we do what we do. I would highly recommend this book if you want to improve yourself and how you see others.

Pleasing Everyone Never Works

I have 28 years of experience working in military organizations. While serving my country, I would work to please my superiors and was focused on the one who was responsible for writing my performance evaluation. After leaving that structured lifestyle, I struggled to work in an organization full of individuals doing their work differently. When placed in a leadership role of such individuals, it became difficult to try and please everyone. I had to learn how to say “no” without feeling guilty. I had to learn to recognize the behaviors and practice routines to help me set boundaries to focus on the job and the mission. I found this book to be right on task, and listening to this helped me to rebuild my confidence as a leader in the workplace. I found the strategies to be useful.

Great for building healthier social skills

One thing about this book that was really eye-opening was when it talked about how when I never say no, I'm actually hurting myself. I know I'm making it more difficult on myself when I say yes to something I really should have said no to, but I never thought about it actually being harmful to me. And it made me change my perspective on saying yes vs no when it said that I can be a kind person and still a person that says no when I need to. Now that I think about it, there are people I know who I consider to be kind, but they say no sometimes. I guess I can be like that too.

Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries

Excellent book with all the information you need to work out if you are really a people pleaser and if so what to do about it. How to be assertive and how to put yourself first. Critical information narrated really well - easy listen. Can't recommend this book enough if you want to change your life for the better.

I Needed This

Listening to this was harder than I thought it was going to be. I did much soul-searching and admitted things that hit home. It was uncomfortable at times, albeit useful. The theme of "numbing out" and avoiding being present when I knew that conflict was imminent is a pattern that I recognize all too well.

Fortunately, the author does not let me wallow in self-pity. A helpful test at the end of Chapter 2 helps isolate some of the behavior patterns I want to change. Chapter 2 also made me much more aware of the prices I pay due to being a people-pleaser. Ugh.

Chapter 4 turns toward solutions and helps me create new patterns that can change my perspective from someone who subjugates myself to others to someone who asserts themselves. That is an uncomfortable place for me. However, I have learned that when I set my intention to change patterns that do not serve me, I often start by feeling nervous and vulnerable.

This book is helping me to harden my path to remember that a disagreement with someone else is simply a different perspective, not an indictment of me being "less than" anyone else.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who struggles with self-confidence and has a repeated pattern of people-pleasing.
