About this listen

The Tower is here. One soldier is ready.

A life spent honing his skills and serving his country hasn’t turned out exactly how Nathaniel Abrams planned, but it’s attracted the attention of the Tower. Ascending to its peak is meant to give anyone whatever they wish for, but all Nate cares about is finding some way to use the skills that seem so useless in civilian life.

And if he can prevent a magical wish being given to some maniac (because the Tower seems to love welcoming maniacs through its doors), then that’ll be a bonus.

Besides, Nate has an edge. Ever since his uncle disappeared fifteen years ago, Nate has been waiting. Preparing. Training.

Unlike so many other Ascenders, Nate is entering the first floor with every piece of gear imaginable to ensure he’ll reach the top. Food, water, clothing—and most of all, weapons.

Almost perfect, just a few issues.

The story pacing and content were good could been better but not by much.

My main gripe is with the narrator and/or author and their gun enthusiasts jargon. It was off base a few times like with hammer on a weapon that has none. Basically where the bolt should be locked back since the magazine was empty. Just a few little details to correct and it would have been mint.

A bit over the top, but good

A different approach to the tower story. The main character is definitely a dark hero drenched in blood.
Chaotic neutral at best of course for someone like this to be seen as a hero. The villain has to be darker than dark with a nice strong vein of corporate evil. The tower in this series is definitely a training ground for some very dark characters.

Glad I gave it a chance

The voice acting was top notch. The story was very entertaining. I enjoyed following Nate and "friends" as they struggled through the tower's lower floors. They are broken people given a second chance at life. Some know what they want to achieve with the tower while others are just trying to find a purpose to their existence. The twist that the tower has a certain type of people that it prefers to be climbers makes the story work. Normal people don't have it in them to fight monsters and traves through dangerous terrain. You find out the people brought their are monsters themselves in their own right, some quit literally. The fights were pretty entertaining. I enjoy a fantasy story were the writer fully embraces the utility of modern weapons. There are too many fantasy novels, especially litrpgs, that try their best to eliminate technology out the equation. This is almost the complete opposite. So I would recommend 👌.

I love it❣️

King writing an amazing non-harem book.
And it's awesome!
The MC is not a good guy or a bad guy but a slave to the stories of the tower that his Uncle Buck told him when he was a boy.
He gets to the tower and the story really gets going.
Great writing and narration.
I'm giving this book 8 out of 5 stars.

In Progress, Entertaining with minor issues so far!

I will come back and finish this review later but I am enjoying this book. The voice actor is solid and the story is enjoyable. The one problem I have is that the authors get most of the gun lingo and knowledge right but so far I’ve run into the following line “the hammer on the Glock” Glocks do not have a hammer, he may have meant slide in the context it was used. Minor issue but it can break the immersion

Tower Progression done right

Morally grey, exciting, and good characters. Narration was great. I can't wait for the next one.

Lack of gun knowledge in a gun centered story.

The author gave us such gems as, "Cock the hammer back on the Glock," and "Switch the Glock to three round burst mode." Also, it gets a little confusing at times, but I think the author is using Glock and M1911 interchangeably.

The MC killed people. He can tell when others have killed people, because he's killed people. Mc has nightmares about his fallen comrades, and all the people he's killed. The MC is used to killing people, because he did kill people. Hey, were you aware that the MC killed people?

If you can look past the lack of gun knowledge, and the gimdark edgelord stuff, it's a decent story. However, it absolutely is not deserving of it's 4.7(at time of review) rating that it has.

pretty mid

The MC is an insufferable edge lord who repeatedly made me cringe and characters have a hard time staying consistent personality wise the biggest offender being at the very end one character did a personality 180 out of nowhere.
