Good story, unique characters

I enjoyed this read and the narrator did a great job. The only complaint I really had was the way the main female character was written. I think she may have been written a little in the extreme and so in some areas was not believable. But I really enjoyed the rest of the story!

LOVE IT!

Mackenzie August, ex cop, is a private investigator going undercover as a school teacher to find information about a drug leader. I absolutely love this character, he's witty and smart mouthed, which gets him in trouble most. days. This is THE single best mystery crime thriller I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I received this audible yesterday and listened to it twice already! LOVED it that much!

Scott Ellis does an amazing job narrating this. The voices he used are perfect and brings the characters to life. I hope he narrates the rest in this series.

I was provided a free copy of this audible at my request. It's my pleasure to leave my review for this amazing story. *All comments in my review are strictly my own thoughts and opinions.*

Don't Judge This Book By It's Cover

This story takes place in Roanoke, VA and it was so easy to see myself back there since my college days at Radford U and traveling to Valley View Mall on the weekends. I love the main character, Mackenzie, who is a retired cop, turned private eye, to a high school teacher to help the local authorities find out more about the drugs that are taking over the city and young ladies that are missing. I loved the sense of humor and wit that the author has throughout the book, just wished the narrator played it up a little more, however, the narrator did a great job with the different characters and was on point with tone. I am looking forward to Book 2

Welcome to the Party Mackenzie Ellis!

Sophomore Slump is a really good time. Mackenzie August is a former cop, and a P.I. who is sometimes an English teacher. He lives with his father and is raising his two year son. This book was fast paced and very funny. I laughed out loud several times. Fans of Robert B. Parker's Spenser series would be wise to check this out. Scott Ellis gave a wonderful audio performance of the book. His delivery was well suited to August's smart aleck, yet earnest attitude. I see that Amazon has the other books on kindle. Here's hoping that Audible and Mr. Ellis get back in the recording booth for the rest. There is one technical issue with the file, as a few lines get repeated, but this did not detract from my enjoyment of the book. What a treat!

Fun start to the series!

Sophomore Slump by Alan Lee is Book 1 in the Mackenzie August series and it definitely got off to a good start. Mackenzie is full of wit and sarcasm, which I found pretty enjoyable to listen to. Be warned-if you don't like language, then this may not be the book for you, as there is quite a bit of bad language throughout the book. Anyways, the book was pretty fast paced and kept me entertained pretty much the whole way through. There were a few parts that didn't seem to move quite so well, but overall if this sounds like a story that you'd like to listen to, I'd go ahead and take a chance on this one.

I thought that Scott Ellis did a good job with the narration. His voice was perfect for the amount of wit and sarcasm that Mackenzie August has. He definitely brought the characters to life well. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Fantastic story and narration!

I like the story! I’ve not read Alan Lee before and am so glad I was introduced to him by way of his character, Mackenzie August. This character is awesome! His storyline is as well! Intriguing with great supporting characters! The narrator was perfect for Mackenzie and Sophomore Slump. I’m hoping he also narrates the rest of the series. I can’t wait to hear/read more!
