Great audio to healing, better relationships

This is all about making meaningful changes using foundational work using the needs you require. It's not completely about relationships but how you choose to connect with others and all the emotions that life brings. I like how the author goes into what we feel, our thoughts, our emotions, what we fear... I'm not one to be afraid/or admit, but we sometimes may avoid challenges. I understand there's plenty of people who live life skimming the surface and don't desire to dive into anything. We may take on all this personal independence that we tell ourselves we don't need to be closer to those around us. These practices using positive steps for change allow us to have a new story for our future and we can engage with the life we have avoided.
People may get defensive as they are protective, but the advice detailed will help out partners, or even personal setbacks. Those underlining expectations, challenging moments, surprises, allows you to express yourself with words with directions of how to be heard and respected. Each partner can feel part of their own relationship giving both growth and a better mindset. You'll learn how to watch out for your, and your partners triggers, as its not about battling against each other but creating that bond you wanted to have. You will learn how to get a positive discovery of your new goals and be ready for your ambitions and shared purpose. I really liked the narrator, she was like listening to a wonderful counselor. I highly recommend this audio, pretty cool.

Gentle and insightful

This audiobook was like holding up a mirror—and for the first time, actually understanding the reflection. The way A.J. Brooks explains deactivation triggers and avoidant behaviors helped me finally connect the dots on patterns I’ve repeated in relationships without even realizing it. The daily exercises are simple but surprisingly powerful, especially the ones focused on slowing down and staying present during emotional discomfort. I liked that the tone wasn’t pushy or clinical—it felt like a calm conversation guiding me toward healthier connection. If you’ve struggled with emotional distance or fear of intimacy, this is a compassionate and practical roadmap to start healing.

really introspective

I’ve always known I struggle with emotional closeness, but this audiobook helped me understand the “why” behind it. I’ve also been trying to be more mindful of my avoidant tendencies, and this helped me put words to behaviors I couldn’t explain before. If you’re working on showing up better in relationships (or even just understanding yourself more deeply), this is definitely a great pick

Helpful Steps Toward Real Connection

I listened to this over a few evenings with a cup of tea and found it more comforting than I expected. The narrator’s voice was warm and steady which made it easier to take in some of the harder truths. The daily exercises were short but thoughtful and helped me notice patterns I hadn’t seen before. It reminded me of a time I pulled away from someone who cared simply because I didn’t know how to be close. This gave me tools to try a different way.

Finally Understand My Patterns

I didn’t expect to connect so quickly with this book, but wow—it hit home. For years, I thought pulling away in relationships was just my personality. Or, I just like the quiet of being alone. Turns out, there's a name for it, and more importantly, a way out. This made me reflect on my past without spiraling, and I’ve already started changing how I communicate with my partner. It’s not preachy or full of fluff—just straight talk that actually made a difference for me.
