About this listen

First comes darkness, then comes fear

Eve Duncan is back! Blockbuster New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen's latest thriller brings Eve closer to discovering her daughter's killer…and into a web of danger from which she may not be able to escape…

Eve Duncan returns in a thriller that pits her against the most evil mind she has ever encountered: a ruthless killer who taunts her with his every move…and who has a special affinity for blood. When a Georgia senator's daughter is found murdered, and her body drained of blood, Eve Duncan is drawn into the web of Kevin Jelak - a serial murderer who is on Eve's short list of killers who might know something about her missing daughter Bonnie. When a goblet of blood is found in Eve's refrigerator, she knows the taunting is over…and the games have begun. As Eve and Jelak engage in a dance of death, Eve must call upon those she loves and trusts the most…even if it means bringing them into the game as well.

A Good Listen - Just as Expected

I listen to books for entertainment, not great enlightenment or deep thinking. Iris Johansen delivers her expected formula with familiar characters and satisfying attachments to each other. Do I get annoyed with Eve for her relentless pursuit of her child's remains? Sometimes, but I can't put myself in her place in either fact or fiction, thank God, and I'm willing to suspend disbelief for the sake of a story that keeps one part of my mind occupied while another part focuses on something else. If you haven't been following Eve, I recommend starting at the beginning. Jennifer van Dyke delivers a very satisfying narration and has become one of my favorites, perhaps even as high on the list as the much missed Anna Fields.

Excellent series

Narrator is engaging. Iris Johansen makes it so even though this is a series, the reader isn't lost with the background info or part events. #UnitedStates

Everything I’ve come to expect..,

Iris Johansen is a great storyteller. Her stories engage from the very beginning. My only criticism is that she waited until the very end to unfold and tie up questions about a character vital to the plot.

Vampires Anyone!!

This time Eve Duncan is pitted against the most evil mind she has met up with. Kevin Jelak is the second on a list of three suspects who might know something about her missing daughter, Bonnie. Jelak is a vampire wannabe. His plan is to kill and feed on the blood of a dozen people and so he can become a resurrected god-man. Eve is number 12 on his list. I've enjoyed all of Iris Johansen's Eve Duncan novels but this one is chocked full of the paranormal. I'll continue to be a fan of the Eve Duncan series but I hope the next one has a bit more realism. Blood Game shows us ample blood, but more attention to Jelak than to Eve and her human relationships. As always, the book has much suspense and great characterisation. This is the novel for anyone who enjoys vampire thinking, blood and suspense.

Blood Game/ Eve Duncan

Being familar witht the character of Eve Duncan, I enjoyed hearing another story in this series. My only probelm is I wish I had read the book instead. Listening to the discription of the killers intake of his vicitms blood was hard to listen to. If I'd read it I could have easily skimmed over it. But the story was compelling and full of new areas of interest for the main characters.
In the first review by a poster they said the characters where "not fully developed", I disagree. These characters have been fully developed in previous books, and to rehash everthing would be too lenghty and redundent. If you have read this series previously you will know and understand the new "unbelievable", to quote the poster, events that take place. These events add to the characters depth and create new avenues for them to head towards. Be patient and read through other books from the series before you make a final decision.

WONDERFUL!

I enjoy Jennifer Van Dyke's narration! Not the first of this Eve Duncan series I am enjoying, that she has done. But she really makes the story & the characters individuals.

Silly

Eve Duncan, a famed forensic sculptor whose daughter disappeared when she was a child, has been searching for her ever since. Her relentless search usually places her in the path of one deadly killer or another from which she barely escapes with her life.

The is the second Eve Duncan book I've read and I found it, well, just silly. Another serial killer "du jour" book, the author threw in a little of the supernatural just for fun. And it might have been if the dialog hadn't been so overwrought, bordering on absurd. It follows the same formula as the first book I read and was, quite frankly, a bit of a bore and I nearly didn't finish it. I won't read another of this series.
