About this listen
Detective Paige Whiskey has a lot on her plate. A gate to hell is permanently seared into her soul and she has no way of controlling it. She let a psychotic serial killing demon free in exchange for Dexx's life. Her sister is about to have a baby and a whole world of crazy has opened in the Whiskey household. And, if that wasn't enough, she and Dexx are trying to figure out their relationship.
They're about to discover a world that has been hidden from the Whiskeys. A world of shapeshifters, werewolves, and vampires. A world that was hidden to end a bloody war. A war between shifters and witches.
Paige has to make a decision. Solve this murder and start a war? Or ignore it and keep her family safe?
But when Dexx is bitten, everything changes. War? Or love?
If you're a fan of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, you'll enjoy Whiskey Witches.

Story
Detective Paige Whiskey comes from a long line of witches. They may not all be the most powerful, but they are outspoken and supportive of their community. She alone has no gifts. She can't summon fire, can't read minds. She knows the arcane. She's studied it. That, along with her connection to the Whiskey Witches, lands her some pretty strange cases. Like the sacrificial murders of St. Francisville, Louisiana. There's a killer on the loose, choosing people in a vain attempt to raise a demon.

Story
Most witches don't work for police departments, but Michelle isn't your average witch. She's clanless, looking for a warlock who isn't offended by her lack of family connections, and in danger of losing her job if she can't find the eight escaped trolls before they start eating the local residents. Trolls, angry police, and misbehaving spells are the least of her problems. Statues attacking homeowners might be problematic for your average witch, but to Michelle it's another day at the office.

But my luck is finally looking up. I’ve teamed up with a hottie police officer and his snarky, lie-sniffing German shepherd to catch criminals. From a murdered fashion icon spinning a web of lies to the killed curator of an occult museum, I’m doggedly helping the police bring the bad guys to justice.

I’m Jinx. As a private investigator, being a walking, talking lie detector is a useful skill—but let’s face it, it’s not normal. You’d think it would make my job way too easy, but even with my weird skills, I still haven’t been able to track down my parent’s killers. When I’m hired to find a missing university student, I hope to find her propped up at a bar—yet my gut tells me there’s more to this case than a party girl gone wild.

Story
Welcome to The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. I'm Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd in charge. I run my business by one simple rule: Everyone needs a good book and a stiff drink, be they vampire, wicche, demon, or fae. No wolves, though. Ever. I serve the supernatural community of San Francisco. We've been having some problems lately. Okay, I'm the one with the problems. The broken body of a female werewolf washed up on my doorstep. What makes sweat pool at the base of my spine, though, is realizing the scars she bears are identical to the ones I conceal.

Sabina's latest mission is uncomfortably complex and threatens the fragile peace between the vampire and mage races. As she scrambles to figure out which side she's on, she uncovers a tangled political web, some nasty facts about her family, and some unexpected new talents. Any of these things could be worryingly life changing, but together they could be lethal.

Better than book one
I enjoyed book one, and this second book was even better. The story seemed to flow better, perhaps because the world building had already been done (for the most part). This book picks up almost immediately after book one finishes, I can't help but feel bad for Paige, she can't seem to catch a break, but it does make for exciting and enjoyable books.
I like Pagie more and more, she's very honest with herself about how she's feeling and what actions she's OK with taking or wishes she had taken, it's refreshing and shows a lot of strength.
The new characters are a very interesting addition, I love that more of the supernatural is popping up and that it's revealing some long kept secrets. I can't wait to see what the next book will bring.
The narration is excellent, the pacing and rhythm of the delivery is emotive and helped draw me into the story, I was so wrapped up I was surprised when it ended. The character vocies were consistent and convincing.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Fast Action- Edge of your seat
Any additional comments?
This was the next book in the series and I think I like this one even better than the first. Though I will say the first one was dynamite. The reason I liked this one better had to do with character development. I knew these characters now. They have become part of my fantasy world. I do think a reader could start with this book and still understand the series. But as with any series starting with book one gives you a greater appreciation for the story.
The plot of this book was fast-paced and it drove me to keep listening. I didn't want to be interrupted. The author added a new character and developed one a little more from the first book and it helped create a nice ensemble cast. There is one twist with the book and I really can't say too much but it involved a really big cat.
The narrator continued to do a phenomenal job with each of the characters. Their voices were unique and helped me visualize them even more in my head.

Fast-paced
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by S.M. Blooding. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
I had listened to Whisky Witches a few days ago and I was interested in what was going to happen to Paige and her friend Dexx next. I liked Blood Moon Magick more than Whisky Witches partly because it wasn't as dark as the first one.
Paige finds out that the world doesn't just have humans, witches, and demons. There are also vampires and shapeshifters and her partner is a vampire! She can't believe that he's been her partner for 5 years and she never realized that he was a vampire. To her credit though, her grandma insisted that there were no vampires so why would Paige even consider it?
The pace of Blood Moon Magick is super speed. There are new characters, lots of twists, danger, suspense, and the occasional laugh.
Paige is strong but angry (understandably). She handles all that she learns well but she's mad at her family for lying to her. She hasn't even gotten over them binding her powers yet and she's beginning to wonder if she knows her family at all.
I like S.M. Blooding's writing even more after listening to Blood Moon Magick. Kalinda Little does a good job narrating. She has good timing and inflection and I was able to follow the different characters by the changes in her voice. I did find Tony's voice annoying, though, and cringed every time he spoke.
I recommend Blood Moon Magick if you like fantasies with demons, witches, vampires, and shifters. This book does stand on its own but it would be better if you read Whisky Witches first.

Blood Moon Magick
Paige Whiskey is back for round two. The demons have followed her to Denver where a girl has been murdered. This second installment begins where the first installment ended, the trip back to her life in Denver after one heck of fight for her life in Louisiana. Blooding has continued the intensity with this installment, with charged up characters and unpredictable circumstances. There are a lot of questions, a lot of injustices, and now there are shape-shifters and other paranormal creatures coming out of the woodwork. The author continues to do a stunning job by incorporating action-pact and paranormal elements all in one package.
Paige Whiskey is the detective…and witch…called into yet another crime scene with murder written all over it. Paige tends to get the strange cases and for the life of her, but now she knows exactly why…demons are drawn to her and one demon in particular by the name of Sven has made sure of that. After giving the key to Sven in exchange for Dexx’s life, Sven told her that something big was coming and she had to get stronger to prepare. This murder is only the start, but what it opens up could be worse. Paige discovers the entities of other paranormal creatures. Vampires, werewolves, werecats…the list goes on. What she doesn’t know is why her grandmother kept them a secret from her and what her family has to do with this mysterious pact between shifters and witches. Then…as if that isn’t enough to deal with, Dexx gets bitten and Paige has to make a decision that could cause a war to come to her doorstep.
Blooding does a superb job with character development, originality, creativity, and pace. The pace is nice and fast, but not in any way difficult to keep up with. The scenery described is vivid, lucid, and completely elemental. Since this review compliments the audiobook, the narrator Kalinda Little did have some strengths and weaknesses with the portrayal of this story. There were still special effects with the vocalization from past to present memories, but there still feels it is lacking something. It doesn’t seem as much as the first installment, but the way the narrator reads the story still feels a little unemotional. If you are a reader of paranormal fiction and dark fantasy, you may want to pick this one up as it is the first installment of the Whiskey Witches Series.
A copy of this audiobook was provided to Turning Another Page by Audiobookworm Promotions, but this in no way affects our honest opinion of the book or the review that has been written. We provide a four-star rating for Blood Moon Magick by S.M. Blooding, narrated by Kalinda Little.

I am in love with this series!
S.M. Blooding is a phenomenal writer. She is an artist at painting the canvas with her words and pulling the reader in. Even Blooding's supporting characters are complex and fascinating. Several of the supporting cast could easily have their own books.
Aided by narrator, Kalinda Little, this story comes to life before the readers eyes. Little is fantabulous with her foreign accents and southern drawl. She really made the characters come alive in my mind.
My favorite character is Paige. How she hasn't gone on a killing spree with the years of pent up angry she has is mind boggling. lol She is one strong female MC.
This series as a whole has been fantastic. I cannot wait to dive into the next one.

Whiskey & Colt continue the party in Denver!
Note: While this is Book 2 in the series, it works mostly OK as a stand alone. The author does a good job of recapping past events that are relevant to this tale.
Paige Whiskey has returned to Denver after spending time with her family in Georgia. It’s only been a week since she did some demon fighting and regained some important memories. But she’s getting back into the swing of things as a homicide investigator with the Denver police department. Dexx Colt came to Denver with her and he’s picking up some handyman and mechanic jobs with Paige’s neighbors. Toss in her detective partner, Tony, and then FBI agent Jack, there’s a full monster hunting party.
I like the Denver setting, all the action, and the shifter magic that comes into play. Tony was also a worthy addition as I can relate to his skepticism. Dexx provides humor and some heat (though not as much as in Book 1). Jack’s role became important at the end of the book. Paige’s pregnant Texan sister provides some worthy research via the phone. Then we get a small-town sheriff, Carl (a woman) who acts as gatekeeper to the shifter community. Paige is the single woman in a boy’s club but these other ladies give the story some gender balance.
Paige is one of those people that can create her own drama. She’s got lots of self-doubt and spends time second guessing herself. I didn’t really like these traits about her but luckily she’s got murders to solve and supernatural beings to combat. Her powers grew exponentially in Book 1, which was fine. However, by the end of this book she has yet more crazy powers and these are used to get her out of a very difficult spot. So I felt that her powers were too convenient. I am hoping that Book 3 finds Paige having to do a little more than fling magic around.
Tony is the character that fascinates me. He’s hesitant to give up his secrets but eventually it becomes apparent that everyone would be better off if everyone put some of their cards on the table. I loved his reveal, his snide comments, and his dry sense of humor. Perhaps there will be a Tony miniseries spin off? (looks hopefully over at the author).
Sven was the big tricky demon from Book 1 and he has followed Paige to Colorado where he continues to torment her (or is he trying to woo her?) by leaving bodies. However, now he has a new trick up his sleeve and it involves the Denver area shifters. His trap he laid for her is multi-layered and I liked that it wasn’t a slam dunk to defeat him (even if I found that Paige’s sudden new powers made things too easy right there at the end).
Overall, I enjoyed Book 1 a bit more. Paige is sassy and her cussing makes me chuckle. There was a touch more unnecessary drama in Paige’s head in this tale and I found that repetitive. However, we get to meet Tony and he’s my new favorite character for this series. I really hope that Paige gets laid next book so she can stop riding the waves of desire and self-doubt. 3.5/5 stars.
I received a free copy of this book.
The Narration: Kalinda Little continues to be a very enjoyable Paige Whiskey. I like her slightly rough voice for Paige. I also love her big lovable voice for Dexx. Her voice for Tony fluctuated quite a bit. Sometimes he sounded like he was sneering all the time and sometimes I kept getting him confused with Jack. Her male character voices are masculine though which is a good thing with so many male characters. I like how Little made Paige’s inner telepathic communications sound a little different so it was very easy to tell when the character was using that skill. 4/5 stars.

Witches and Demons and..... Snow?
Not to mention shifters and vampires and more shifters and more demons (you knew Sven would be back, didn't you?)... and coffee (my Twin Peaks moment).... not to mention even more shifters and babies and some biting.... and some other stuff I won't mention because it might spoil the surprise... On the whole, an excellent story with some mysteries, lots of surprises... how can you pass it up? The Whiskey Witches are at it again..... buy it, read it, love it!

Magic, Paranormal, Better than book One!
Blood Moon Magick
A Whiskey Witches Novel, Book 2
By: S.M. Blooding
Narrated by: Kalinda Little
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
I liked this book even more than the first book! It flows better and it isn't only center around the main character. She is actually able to help others. This one she finds that there is more to the paranormal world than just demons, angels, and ghost. She is back in Texas and finds out her detective partner is one of those 'other' paranormals. It gets real exciting and she uses her witch abilites in ways she didn't in book one. Really cool.
The narrator is wonderful and performed the voices well and moved the story along perfectly. Great job.
