About this listen

Born an Outcast, Talyn Batur has spent the whole of his life fighting against the prejudice of his people. An Andarion without a father is not something anyone wants to be. But when his companion's brother draws him into a plot against the Andarion crown, he finds himself torn between the loyalty to the planetary government that his mother has beaten into him and his own beliefs of justice and right. Now he must decide for himself to remain a pawn or to defy everything and everyone he's ever known to stand up to tyranny. It's a gamble that will either save his life or end it. And when old enemies align with new ones, it's more than just his own life at risk. And more than just his homeworld that will end should he fail.

Kenyon had done it again. I do not care what anyone has to say. This one is to be READ. It allows you to see the strife on the planet before it all began. It is the segway into Fain's story. This is much needed back info. I am heading to read the next book of the series and I do hope that I am not wrong. Tayln's story was needed to understand Fain's.

I found Tayln to be strong, intense, powerful, honorable, reliable, and so much more. I am sitting her wanting to read it again. To be so young. He knows who he is and what he is about. He has the odds stacked against him and lets none of it stop him. He should be every mother's dream for her daughter, but there is a catch. On his world he is more of an outcast than his birth predicates.

It is absolutely endearing to watch every challenge that he goes against and still he rises. It may take some time but he rises. Then there is Felicia. You must read it to understand.

I found that Kenyon has made this a standout among 'The League' series. I most certainly will seek out more.

Fred Berman has narrated many of Sherrilyn's books and he has a voice that makes for easy listening. The male voices, diction, accents, appeal and sexual aggression, alphaism comes through clear. No matter the speed of the audio, good sound quality is there.

Sexy male voice, accents, appeal, sensuality . . .

loved every moment if this book. like I said in the heading Talyn Batur is my spirit animal. he gives me hope that there is a man out there that will go above and beyond to protect his female. I'm so here for Talyn and Felicia!

Talyn Batur is my spirit Animal

This story was slightly confusing because it is happening pre-book one of the League Series. Also Talyn is suppose to be an exact replica of his father and Dancer however, no one seems to 'see' the resemblance unless it's pointed out! Of course it could be that adage, 'hiding in plain site'! Although it became wearing that every time things seem to be finally going good for Talyn and then he gets slammed down. But I still loved it anyway! There are new introduction of characters and startling new things! You gotta read!

I really enjoy these characters!

Loved this book. can't wait for the next one. was a little confused at where this would fit in the timeline with the other books, but I did figure it out.

loved the story and characters

Talyn is not one to be mistaken for a pushover. You mess with someone he loves and you will know exactly why a war haulk is so dangerous.

Hot Andarion!

good book but not my favorite. born of fury(Dancer's story) is still my #1 out of all the books in this series.

this had a more serious tone to it. not that the others didn't but it didn't have that witty comebacks just like the other books did which is understandable since Talyn only had his mom and Felicia. on another note, i like this better than some of the books because Talyn isn't too insecure about himself unlike other characters in the series. He is defiant, protective, and he doesn't see himself lacking by any means. He adapts in every situation he's dealt with.

i like this book because for a change, the male lead and the female lead was never sexually abused, hadn't been tortured gorily. and though Felicia doesn't kick ass like Janey or other female characters, she's got fire in her and guts too. she isn't fragile like Nykirian's wife.

always love Fred Berman for bringing the characters to life.

overall, good story... the reader could more than understand how this book fits within the whole series. unlike the 'born of ice' book, where i felt it was rushed and should have been written after this book since it really didn't weave together with the others.

born of defiance, he is...

Couldn't stop listening to this one. I absolutely loved it. Another fine addition to the series that could exist as a stand alone story.

Captivating!

"Listened to audio narrated well by Fred Berman.
This takes place before 'Born of Night'. Galene's son Talyn is considered a bastard with no parental lineage. He has to fight for every privilege, but all his gains are for nothing as his CO has it out for him and does everything within his power to harass and ruin Talyn's life. Talyn see's Felicia on an advertisement for a companion and he seeks her out. It's the only way he can have a female in their culture without going to jail or receiving a death sentence.

Talyn, who is also a bastard, becomes a companion to help her pay for her schooling and training to become a physician. She sees who Talyn really is and their story is both difficult and amazing to read. I love how she stands by him and is outraged on his behalf for all the injustices he endures.

Awesome story, didn't want to stop listening.

Tragic but also amazing love story
