About this listen

Opposites attract when a bashful librarian and a ruggedly handsome cop with a dark past meet one day in the Colorado woods—and dare to test their chemistry . . .

There's nothing like the first time . . .

In Carnal, Colorado, Faye Goodknight is the town's quiet, shy librarian. She may also be Carnal's last remaining virgin. For years, Faye has had a crush on Chace Keaton, but the gorgeous cop has always been unattainable. She's resigned to live contentedly with only her books for company—until Faye suddenly meets Chace alone in the woods . . .

Chace doesn't think he's the good guy everyone believes him to be. He's made a lot of choices he regrets, including denying his feelings for Faye. Through his choices, he's come to believe the pretty librarian is too good for him, but after their time in the woods, Chace realizes that she may be his last chance for redemption. Soon, their long simmering desires grow to a burning passion. Yet always casting a shadow over their happiness is Chace's dark past . . .

Love the story, Narrator isn't my favorite

Admittedly, I am picky when it comes to narrators. This is one of my favorite books, but this narrator just didn't fit for me. I think her voice was too mature for the character of Faye. At least the way I imagine Faye, she is younger, sweeter, softer than the voice of this narrator. Also, her "men" voices just got on my nerves. Not a bad performance, just didn't work for me. But this story...fabulous, just like every other time I've read it!

KA fan

I love KA, she’s created her own world that comes through in all of her books and I like that, because I go in knowing what to expect and she usually delivers. I loved Faye and Chases story, not as good as Lexie and Ty (swooooon!) or Deek and Justice (looove!) but I’ve still listened to it more than once.
The only thing that sort of annoyed me about the book was Chases mom. The book acts like she is some crazy person and as far as she was described, she maybe just has some anxiety or self-doubts? That was weird and a little annoying because seriously, who doesn’t have anxiety. Also, Deck reassures Faye that whatever insane mental illness Chases mom has wasn’t passed down to Chase and then when you meet the mom, she actually seemed really sweet and generous. That whole thing wasn’t a major plot point, so not a big deal I guess, but I always hate stigmas about mental illness. Aside from that, KA is always great!

Great story! Love Chace and Faye! <3

5 stars

I LOVED this book! I think this may tie Sweet Dreams for my fave in this series. Both have now made it to my all time favorite books list. Chace and Faye are both great on their own and put them together and I was hooked.

Chace first showed up in Lady Luck where he was part of a dirty police department. He was trapped in a marriage to a woman he hated and no one understood why. The reasons come out but not fully until this book. In Breathe we get to find out exactly why Chace felt he had to do what he did and how he ended up going to IA to help overturn the dirty cops. Chace's wife was killed in the last book and although Chace hated her he still is trying to find her killer in this book.

Because of what he went through and what happened with Misty (his late wife) he doesn't feel clean. He feels an attraction to Faye but doesn't feel he can ever deserve someone as sweet and clean as her after the muck he was swimming in for years. Trying to push her away, Chace has a couple bouts of relationship dumbassedness and hurts Faye but (as with most Alpha male type heroes) eventually he realizes he can't fight the attraction and goes after her.

Faye is awesome! She's shy and reads a lot but she's also sweet while still having a backbone when required. She's also a total geek (which I love because I'm a geek and I totally got what she was talking about)! There are many convos about things like Star Wars (I loved the "who shot first" convo!), Battlestar Galactica (Faye says Frak all the time), Joss Whedon (and a possible nomination for his sainthood) and his shows, as well as many other fun geeky subjects.

Faye started crushing on Chace when she first saw him at the age of 16 and it carried on to current time (even through the mess with him and Misty). She doesn't think he's attracted to her though (although she was told he is) and she's trying to find some way to get his attention when the book starts. Advice from a couple different friends goes badly at the beginning and she's convinced that he doesn't like her at all. Fortunately at this point, Chace screws his head on straight and decides to stop fighting things.

I really enjoyed seeing Chace and Faye start to date and them getting to know each other. It was cool and sweet and I was so happy for both of them. I was even happier when Chace finally spills his whole story for Faye so she can help him through it. Faye finds a homeless boy she wants to help and her and Chace end up working on that together. I loved that part of the story line and loved how it resolved at the end of the book. There was also more movement from the powerful people that the dirty police chief had been blackmailing. This causes some issues for Faye and Chace but (not to ruin any details) this plot line also had a satisfying conclusion in the end.

There were many, many funny parts in this book (loved Twyla and Krys giving Faye relationship advice and that's just one of the funny scenes) but there were also many touching parts in this book (I did use a few tissues). This was a wonderful book that I just loved and I can't wait for the next in the series to come out (it's a great series!). I'd highly recommend this book. 2 thumbs way up! :D

I loved it

Great story line
Really interesting characters
I loved the live story and the suspense aspects.
What I really loved was the length. Most audible books are so short.... this really lets you get into the story.... and the excerpt at the end is going to make me but the next book!

Can't get enough! Endless talent!

Emma Taylor's voice talents are AMAZING! Kristen Ashley's Colorado Mountain series stories are intricately & masterfully woven together, yet beautifully independent. I'm immediately drawn-in, impatient for more & left wanting, while being completely satisfied.
