Publisher's summary

A strong-willed beauty finds herself in the arms of the handsome drifter from her past in this second book in the sizzling series set in the Old West, from USA Today best-selling author Beverly Jenkins.

As manager of one of the finest hotels in Arizona Territory, Portia Carmichael has respect and stability - qualities sorely missing from her harsh childhood. She refuses to jeopardize that by hitching herself to the wrong man. Suitors are plentiful, but none of them has ever looked quite as tempting as the family friend who just rode into town, and none has looked at her with such intensity and heat.

Duchess. That's the nickname Kent Randolph gave Portia when she was a young girl. Now she's a stunning, intelligent woman - and Kent has learned his share of hard lessons. After drifting through the West, he's learned the value of a place to settle down, and in Portia's arms he's found that and more. But convincing her to trust him with her heart, not just her passion, will be the greatest challenge he's known - and one he intends to win.

Awesome Story

Oh how I loved this story. So happy for Portia and Kent. I love how their story came together and the cherry on top was the birth of their son. I can't wait to get into Regan's story. I can see myself going broke trying to read the numerous Beverly Jenkins books on Audible (lol).

Soo good!

This story.... was so good! The author actually finished it thoughtfully, which was a nice change from the abrupt endings I’ve been reading lately. I loved the storyline and characters. I loved the narration as well. I can’t get enough of this series. Now, let’s see what Reagan is up to! Moving on to the last book in the series!

Not as good as Forbidden

still a good romance but not enough character development between main characters; it almost felt rushed...

We make plans and God laughs!

When I was younger I used to hear that " we make plans and God laughs " in my opinion that is a perfect summation Porsche never wanted to marry and have children. God had other plans for her. God brought her Kent. This was a another excellent story told by Beverly Jenkins

Love her books

I really enjoyed this story although I couldn't get past the narrators voice. It seemed like she used the same voice for each character and it threw me off. Good read as always...

A Story To Tell!

I Portia had a story to tell and I was happy to listen to it. Thank goodness for Aunt Eddy and Uncle Rhine for truly welcoming them into their lives ans raising them. Having listened to Eddy and Rhine's story, we learned just how much she loved those girls when her sister was a hot trash human. Eddy told them she would come back for them and before she got a chance to they were shipped to her and that was the best thing to ever happen to them. They were raised with love, sent to school and Portia became smart and independent. Because of all that she witnessed so young from her mother she swore she was never gonna get married. But re-enter Ken and one kiss had her ready to risk it all. This book was so many things, including informative. So many things I never gave thought to about that period of time were answered and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about them. The narrator did a great job bringing this one to life for me. I am moving on to Regan's story next because I just know she has an entertaining tale to tell.

A Lesson Needed to be taught

I always enjoy reading Miss Beverly Jenkins stories. They have so much black history I didn't know about.
