About this listen

One detective. A killer on the move through human space. The ultimate target.

The name's Burnside, and I always get the weird cases. I built my detective career taking down the strangest bad guys in Earth Sector. No matter how crazy the case, I always managed to get it off the books.

After 20 years of pounding my beat, I was ready to pack it in, and I'd called it a day. Then these killings started, weird to the point of freaked-out PD Chiefs, and only one person who fit the case. So much for retirement.

You'd think 20 years of weird would have you weirded out. But crime scenes are not the only weird out there, and expanding your experience of weird isn't for the faint hearted.

The story I'm going to tell you covers two years of my life, and took me from one end of human space to the other. And that's when the weird really starts, out on the edge, where space is owned now by Jonathon Hunter, and I get his best people to work with. This was one for the history books, and my name will always be remembered, because of Burnside's Killer.

A positive-energy noir

Usually I find noir detective mysteries to have an overall flavor of depressed pragmatism with funky endings. This is the opposite -- a positive, hopeful, interesting ending with a room-to-grow, new realms to conquer outlook. There is some grit, we don't actually hear the violence of the killings described in detail, but we do get descriptions of the damage done to the bodies, which might be stressful for some folks. However, if you can get past the description of the first death, there's nothing worse than that in the way of descriptions, and so you're in the clear to sail to the end and the fun ending.

fantastic side story

I about gagged when I heard Jane's voice. she does NOT have a Boston accent. Other than that, the whole thing was great!

a fun detective story,

while it does break up the main story flow. I will say this was a fun surprise. I rarely read detective novels because mostly they are just dry. however this story made me cringe it also had me thinking. I didn't want to stop listening and at the end it does create some interesting possibilities in the future. I eagerly look forward to the next book keep up the good job. and ignore the haters.

Nice side track in the Jon Hunter universe.

Fun read. Interesting new character. Enjoyed the change of pace and the best part is no mention of the cat.

you messed up

This book should not be in the main story line, it is an off set story that has little to do with the story.
