About this listen

It's a hot, hot night. Too hot to be making love, unless your romance is young, like Sherry's and Duane's. It's their first time, and the anticipation is killing. There's just one problem: they have no condoms. Of course, they could wait until tomorrow.

Duane remembers the Speed-D-Mart. In the usual circumstances, it's not a place anyone would want to visit at night. But these aren't usual circumstances. Duane throws on his clothes: the store is just 10 minutes down the block.

Now Sherry is waiting. Ten minutes has gone, so has 20. She's not worried. What's another few minutes? Then she hears the noise from down the street. It might be a door slamming. It might be the backfire of a car. But Sherry thinks it sounds mostly like a gunshot.

Messed Up!

This book was completely demented and messed up. I kept waiting for it to go to a better place. It was on the verge of taking it to the next level, but it never did. It was as if the author is a pervert with some really demented ideas about sex. It creeped me out. Not in a "the book was eerie" kind of a way, but in a "I hope I never meet the author on a deserted road" kind of a way. Ewww! I feel like I need a shower.

Fright...With Excess Filler

Buried within this overlong, rambling tale is the horror equivalent of Martin Scorcese's film AFTER HOURS. A last-minute trip to a convenience store for condoms results in a series of random, bizaare events that turn increasingly violent. Laymon has a nice way with setting the scene but his pointless, rambling dialog is grating as are his icky obsessions with the female anatomy. Some judicious editing would have really made TONIGHT a far better listen/read. Gene Engene is an odd choice as narrator; his Wilford Brimley-like delivery is sometimes at odds with the very graphic nature of the material.

it was decent

narrator was good; story was a little slow for me, all in all ok.

Not even close to his usual works

I like Richard Laymon books. I've read many of them and quite enjoy his sheer brutality. However this book does not even come close to any of his other works. The banter was awful between the characters, pointless internal monologues and conversations. the guy that did the narration made many of the characters sound like Kermit the Frog and not a young teenager. Either way I was very disappointed.

This is without a doubt the WORST book I have ever attempted to read. Too bad there isn't a negative star for rating.

Really?

This book was the worst. Unrealistic all the way through with gratuitous violence and gore. I've listened to over 200 books on audible and have never felt compelled to leave a review until now. I just wished I had the read the reviews before purchasing this garbage.

Too long, dumb characters

Wow. This story could've actually been solid if it were about 4-5 hours shorter. Also, the characters followed absolutely no logic whatsoever. Zero. Nada. Zilch. None of their actions were even remotely believable. I've read some other Laymon books and they were pretty good. This was a dumpster fire. I don't know how this got past an editor. Good grief.
