About this listen

The first-ever book on imago relationship therapy from its creators, geared toward therapists.

Developed by Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt in the 1980s, imago relationship therapy helps couples - and everyone in significant relationships - shift from conflict to connection by transforming the quality of their interactions.

Now, for the first time, the essential principles and practices of Imago, as illustrated in the New York Times best seller Getting the Love You Want, are presented for the benefit of both novice and seasoned clinicians.

Using the Imago processes, couples create a conscious partnership in which they feel safe, fully alive, and joyful, learning to be mutually empathic for each other's childhood challenges and present to each other without judgement. Hendrix and Hunt help couples learn and practice imago dialogue, moving from blame and reactivity to mutual acceptance, affirmation, and empathy, thus deepening their connection.

Joining theory and practice with elegance, and filled with examples, exercises, and dialogues, this is a book no couple's therapist can afford to be without.

Although this is written aimed at therapists, I think it would be helpful to many couples, and I found it helpful as an individual. I plan to add this to my reference section and utilize the sentence stems--I have come to many of the same conclusions on my own, so it was nice to have it 'spelled out' so specifically. I believe listening to this book has improved my relationship to myself and my relationship to relationship. Definitely worth the time to listen (which I did during my morning walks on 1.5x for a couple weeks).

Valuable to all relationships

I’m not a therapist, but wanted a deeper understanding of imago. This book goes deeper into the history of imago, what’s it based on, why certain aspects are important. I really enjoyed the information. I’d recommend if you have the time, it’s long. I enjoyed the narrator too.

In depth explanation of Imago work
