Publisher's summary

Not everyone managed to survive the bloody battle. The strong, the brave, the courageous, and the good all fell with honor. The war spared few and took away many of the best . . .

Hadjar Darkhan was one of the few who survived and is now ready to continue his journey. The battle is over, and the dead have been sent on their last journey. The unknown and the perils of the imminent war are still waiting for Hadjar. He can sense that his life is about to be filled with the clang of weapons and armor and the beating of war drums. He hates war! But he also longs for it . . . Is there anything worse than war and battle?

Maybe. . .

The endless political maneuvering of the two Empires, which they are trying to draw Hadjar into, is definitely not what he needs right now, especially after losing his loyal companion and true friend in battle. A friend he realized he had only after his death . . .

illogical plot point

I love this story, and appreciate the realistic nature of it. However, this one feels a bit forced and illogical for the sake of plot progression. I will not go into details, as I refuse to spoil such a great story in any way. This one dissappointed me a bit, but it is still great, overall. I am certain there was a good reason for the decision, whatever that was.

great addition to the series

definitely a bit on slower paced side of things than other books. but i think it's still a great book and furthers the storey meaningfully.

I can sort of see why some people are upset about Azria (spelling?) but I think it's an interesting way to move the plot ahead.

so much of this felt unnecessary.

this author has a real habit of finding ways to regress their character either physically or in their mentality only for him, a book later, to get back to where he started. it's a constant one step forward two steps back, three steps forward, five steps back.

Stop Turning MCs into Walking Vaginas

The MC has had one goal for every book, to get stronger. Now he is consisting questioning this goal, has become indecisive and weak. Why ruin him after 12 books add turn him into a living beta clown.

hands down one of the best books of the series

This one really confused me as it started. I went to be see if I missed a book as it just didn't make sense until several chapters in. I was really impressed at the story arc on this one; it was nice to see that the MC can use his head as well as his sword. I really didn't see this one ending where it did; this one was just fantastic. The other books had sections that made if my favorite, a cool fight here, a cool task, etc.; this is my new favorite and it's the entire book. I really can't provide the review this one deserves; hands down one of the best books of the series.
